Just came in from the mail box with my new Aluminum Anthony R Breech! This thing is the bomb! I don't even have it mounted yet and I can tell it is going to be one of my favorites......
Now to decide where I am going to mount it ???
Pics and a more thorough report tonight...I promise.
Also, received my super sear from Archer and I will also report on it.
Rich
Pretty sure that is going to be my next breech. Have been actually looking and planning around it for the shhhh build some of us are working on.
Really looking forward to your thoughts and learning more about it Rich!!
Yes sir, got to see it! I heard that it had some "special features" to it ???
I'm trying to sell a CCS short steel breech to get one myself :D
Got my new AR breech today that Anthony cut down for me to go on my new 2240 project.
Absolutely great work.
Carl
Here are a few pics. I am excited to mount this one! :-*
No sharp edges! None, Nada, Zip!!! Ohhh can you tell I like it? ;D
Beauuuutiful ;) :-*
i had one of those breeches last year
it was great but the bolt slot was too tight and i had to lube it so it would function right
Hey Carl,
You got the left hand as well. Rear position hold down screw. I was debating that!
the thing i like best about them is they come with everything you need to mount them i polished mine looked a lot better that way

Show us how it looks now that it is polished. What gun did you mount it on?
Carl
Ya..! no pics? It never happened :D
And it was the bolt that was out of tolerance, not the breech :-*
Rich i like that breech it even looks lite.

Very light!
I am going to put it on my Dad's shooter. Seems he is whispering from heaven "I really do like that breech you made me son, but that AR Breech is the BOMB!!!"
The AR Breech is 64% lighter than the Crosman long steel breech.
Carl
The breeches long fantastic guys!
Carl, what is the length of yours?

Short breech is 100 mm or 3.937".
Carl
Carl, may I ask why you wanted it shorter? Can't wait to order one, couple more paychecks.

I'm going to use the short breech on a 2240 I am working on. Not another stubby project but something sort of similar, me thinks.

Mike
Here it is mounted. Cycles perfectly. Will try to get outdoors for a few shots later.
Awesome looking ... :-*
Rich looks awesome mounted on that gun.
Dang something else to add to the list..
Wow Rich, that did come out nice. The breech looks awesome mounted your gun. Great job and an excellent choice. :-* :-* :-*
Did you notice immediately how much lighter the gun felt in your hand as you shot it?
Carl
That looks great Rich :-*
Mike
I would post and tell Rich how cool that breech is except I'm so jealous that he has one and I don't so... oops hit the POST button :-[ :D ;D
thats a mighty fine looking pistol :-* i think i'm going to have to add one of these breechs to my collection
ped
Very nice Rich, looks sweet and I bet the weight reduction will really help when shooting offhand.

Thanks guys, So far I'm liking it a lot. I took a half dozen shots, but still getting that rear site tuned in at the monument.
As for the weight, I have another pistol with the same configuration with the Crosman long steel breech and rb grips. I did not really notice a difference until I picked up each one. There is a difference, but not to bad. The other pistol is going to get scopped for benchrest shooting and the other will eventually see a better rear site!!! Lighter for offhand, monster for the rest.
Been wanting to do this for years. Now I finally have enough parts to pull it off.
Rich
That looks Really Nice Rich!! :) :-*
I really like that gun!!
Thanks for all the feedback on Anthony's breech.
The rear site is now adjusted all the way down. Looks like I need to make a taller front site. Still hitting 1-1/2" to high. Windage looks pretty good.
I am surprised that no one has asked the most important question about this breech ???
Rich

Rich,
When I saw how high that rear was and that you didn't have a large muzzle brake on it, I wondered how far you were shooting it and still not shooting high. Now I know you had not sighted it in yet.
In the pic below, I have a 2300KT with a 1701 (NOT 1701-p) muzzle brake, Crosman's tallest sight pin, and the rear sight like yours set as low as I can get it. It shoots well at 5 meters using the 6:00 o'clock hold.
Cheers,
looking good!
sitting there with the mr007 tri-wing cap
glad it cycles for you sounds like a winner! :-*
Only thing I need to do is to add a drop of wax to the hold down screw. I ordered the forward screw location.

aahhh!
that may be the difference
the breech I had was the rear/new location breech
I liked the breech but sold it shortly after I got it

You are not a keeper are you Mr. 13? ;)..Had it been mine I would never have sold it..These excellent machinists who feed our hobby will soon be gone and their eclectic products would soon be very much sought after items 8) I respect your move though you are a sharing man ;)
I think I found a set screw that I can use for the front site. Will try to get some site time in between rain showers over the next few days.
Btw: Ed, I think I found, well I did find one of the 6mm set screws for the transfer port mod. Looking at it though, I do not think I can open it up more than .140" diameter. The minor diameter of the threads will break through. I'm sending a pm now.

I too got the forward screw location, I think it gives a better seal, being that it's closer to the T.P. I really like that it makes the pistol 5oz lighter, so much easier to hold on target.
Dave
Yes, it's a good feeling pistol now. My Dad would have loved it even more :-*

Rich are you looking for something to use as a larger transfer port tube? Let me know as I have some stainless that I've used in the past that works great. If I remember the ID is 0.181".
Carl
Thanks Carl. I'm good. That 6mm transfer port mod was something I promised Ed a while back. I made him a couple and misplaced them. I found this one to send to him.

So is it really a 6mm set screw bored out? Is it too late to post a picture? Wonder if he gets someone to tap the valve for a 6mm screw. Interesting.
Carl
i saw this mod that that ark did a while back but did wonder at the max bore you could get
i've thought about using a m8 grub screw so i could bore it out to 4.2mm which is the size i make my tp's at but for all the work and effort i believe a piece of poly pipe or ptfe is easier

Thanks for that link Rich. Can only figure that thread must have happened when I was on my sabbatical year away from the CAPOF and trying to find myself while drinking Long Island Ice Teas somewhere lost in Margarita-ville or either sipping moonshine with my yeti guru lost on Cub mountain or Hanging Limb in Putnam county.

Seriously looking at a place in hanging limb. Hoe far is that from you? We have at least 20 contenders for my money ranging from Murphy NC to Cookeville TN. Now to get well enough to see them!
I found that mod on the far forum. It is a good one if you are so inclined to take the time.
Hanging Limb is about 20 miles from us. It is north of Monterey on Highway 164. But truthfully, I would not be moving there if I was you. It just ain't your kind of place. Please trust me on this one.
Carl
What :D ?
And miss out on the hanging limb Mennonite settlers? :-X ???
Muddy Pond Mennonite Settlement
Located in Hanging Limb, the Muddy Pond Mennonite Settlement has a variety of family-owned businesses offering baked goods, molasses, and leather productions. While at Muddy Pond you can visit the Muddy Pond General Store, with quilts, crafts, natural food and a deli, Bauman's Harness & Leather Shops, the Muddy Pond Sorghum Mill & Store, where you can watch them make molasses, and Bachen Haus Bakery, offering delicious breads, cinnamon rolls and pies.

Well that part of Hanging Limb is okay but there are other parts that you don't go into without packing some serious 'heat'. Know what I mean bean". Some of them places are throwbacks to "Deliverance".
Carl
Livin in Georgia till age 9, I know thetype... introductions usually go like this "this is my wife/sister/cousin, don't mind them web-feet, she's a swimmer!" :D
Ok, scratch Hanging Limb off the list, but I do hear the very best of Shine comes out of those woods ;) What about the outskirts of Jamestown??
Rich
Guys, when I get these breech's both the barrel and bolt bores have been precision reamed for a close fit, the bolt to bore fit is about .003" that's .0015" radial clearance I then stroke the bolt bores with a 500grit brush type bore hone to be sure they operate smoothly. One thing that I can say here is that those type of tolerances definitely require lubrication. Especially when you consider the bolt diameter, it's short length, and the load when cocking the striker. As I wouldn't like to disappoint anyone, I urge anyone that doesn't want to keep these close fit parts lubed, would be best for them to buy a breech that has looser bolt to bore tolerances.
The OEM Crosman steel breech's will fill this qualification, I know this because their sloppy fit was one of the reasons I originally got involved in having the aluminum breech kits made.
My thanks to all of you Forum Members that have bought Breech Kits, Pro-Top's and other parts from me.
Anthony
I was pleasantly surprised with the bolt/breech fit of Anthony's product. The Crosman steel breech has so much slop, you can feel the bolt move laterally, before going aft. Seriously, the stock plastic breech has a better fit. :(

Talk to you soon :)

I can vouch for lubing the bolt area
the breech I had was tight in the bolt area after lubing it with some milcomm tw-25b the bolt became very smooth and any catching/binding was removed
