Re  "13.7 jsb's averave 550 fps with a standard deviation of 3. 14.3 Crosman premier shoot a little slower averaging5 540"

Are the 14.3 Crosman .22 or .20?  I don't imagine you would squeeze a .22 out of a .20 barrel. A stupid question probably deserves a stupid answer.

Unless I read the box wrong (which is a possibility for me) the crosman premier's were .20.  I checked p.a. website and the .22 and .20 are both 14.3 grain. I looked at the box and it said .20 cal 5mm so I think I was shooting the right ones  ;D

Thanks bgmcgee. That begs the question, what is the merit of changing over to a .20 if both a .20 and a .22 would yield more or less the same ballistic. Are there any considerations that a .20 would out perform a .22?
The reason I asked is, I have been thinking of going for a .20 as well, but .20 pellets are not that commonly available though at stores.

A couple answers....the ME for the jsb is 9.2 fpe and the CP's is 9.25 fpe...very consistent so the velocities make sense...
as far as .22 vs .20 with the 14.3's ...the .20's have a ballistic coefficient that is 36% higher because of the greater sectional density
they will shoot much flatter, especially at longer ranges  :-*

Thanks for the insight. I always thought the .20 is the best of both worlds. Now you just confirmed it.

Plus I didn't get a lothar .22 barrel  ;D ;D

bgmcgee,

Did you use a Crosman .22 bolt probe in your .20? A .22 bolt probe o-ring may give a better air seal in a .20 barrel, but it may get damaged over times though.

The guy I bought the barrel from sent a custom made probe for the barel with it. It fits quite well.

Got a chance today to take the 1320 out to the backyard.  Shot it at 45' which is about all the room I have. I used the back of one of my porch chairs for my rest to lazy to drag out the bench and rest. I guess this is what theycall stacking pellets
