Crosman 2250B
« on: June 23, 2020, 03:58:19 PM »
As may have been seen in my introduction post I have previously only owned a couple of 1322 pistols (I soon got bored with all the pumping) and a P338 auto (which was easily the most fun plinking pistol I ever owned and one I should have kept).
I recently swapped an SMK B20 for a 2250B and while i am happy with the deal and love the 2250 I have realised that obtaining it was only the start. It is obvious that a steel breech is a must, if for no other reason than to fit a decent scope, beyond that it seems the only limit is the bank balance :)
First things first though, the cylinder and barrel need re-bluing so I'm currently searching through 40 odd years worth of accumulated tools for a tiny allen key to remove the ridiculously small screw in the loading tray :o

A quality 0.050" allen key is needed.   And ensure that key is well seated into the screw before beginning the turn.

After a long search I finally found the correct allen key, talk about needle in a haystack :D it's now stripped down for blueing and once I've picked up a steel breech it will be going for some valve work and replacement seals.

The 2250 and 2400 models are my favorite shooters. The absolute three best upgrades you can do is to get the following;
Lother Walther barrel
1701p trigger frame with solid hammer
Breech that will accommodate a scope.

Do those things and you will have as accurate a shooter as any $3000. 10M rifle money can buy. The only one to blame if you miss putting them hole in hole will be yourself.

A steel breech conversion is top of my list, the gun seems to have been built down to a price rather than up to a standard. The cheapo plastic breech is obviously not suitable for dovetailing but having the scope mounted with those horrible blocks is far from ideal. While the open sights are great for plinking, maybe Crosman did not realise how popular the 22** series pistols were going to be with more serious shooters who want to fit a scope.

Cylinder and barrel now reblued, At the moment it's producing 8.5 ft lbs with 16gn AADF pellets, next step will be valve and TP modification to release a bit more power.

I also like the Cothran extended bolt.  A really nice feature of this bolt is the magnet on/in the  end of the bolt which holds the bolt open while loading a pellet.  Bolt handles are just cool bling.
