My pistol seems to favor lighter pellets over heavier ones. And I blow through a LOT of pellets so I'm looking to save maybe a nickel or two. I see these for cheap at one of my preferred retailers:

H&N Excite Plinking $4.99/500, 7.25gr
H&N Excite Econ II $4.50/500, 7.4gr
RWS Diabolo Basic $3.99/300, 7.0gr

Candid opinions, please. Any good? Waste of money?

I shoot the RWS Basic and RWS Hobby ammo in my Beeman P-17. Cheap and accurate.

I'll have to pick up a tin of the Basics. I have a tin of the Hobby's (With the fluted skirt?) And wouldn't you know it? My pistol doesn't like them.  :D Mysteries of modern technology?

RWS Basic and Hobby pellets are my go-to target pellets for the monthly competitions. I actually prefer the Basics.

Ah... Giving away secrets are we?  ;)

Actually, I only say that in partial jest because I knew that beforehand from looking at your entries. And everyone else's.

What's the attraction to the lightweight pellets?  They lose their speed sooner and don't hold their energy downrange.

About 4 years ago I was in Phoenix and I visited the Mesa Gun Range.
They have a very active airgun community.
Indoor 10m with computerized scoring, etc.
They told me they buy nothing but the Exite (RWS) pellets.
They buy them by the 100,000s..
They are not the top of the line but they do fine.. ;)

With lightweight pellets I get consistently tighter groups with fewer flyers. The heavier the pellet, the larger the group. When I got the new barrel, I tried everything from 7gr to over 9gr and everything in between I could get my hands on. The lighter, the tighter. (T-shirt?)

Beyond 5/10M, it doesn't matter to me.
