I have been planning to do this for a while, but do not have a spare pumper to play with. If you want to make this a joint venture, I have prepared modified stock valve/pistons (coned & flat top) ready to go. PM me.

I'm betting crosshairs will be stoked to make a video on this subject.

I just messaged Quickster on FB, maybe will convince him to run a test on this.  8)

we dont see much out of crosshairs and quickster these days in regards to tests and videos
it would be like old times to them make something new ;)

Gotta agree, Crosman has made small changes that took preformance from the 13xx platform.
And, maybe still are....
Shaved tip without longer piston (1/32" ?), will cause more power loss, than the headspace saved.

I started to revive an older 1389 that I picked up last year.  What I found confirmed some of my
research and conclusions when doing my 'quad P, poormans perfect plinkin' pistol, last year.

Found a cone/cup perfectly mated.  Small cone tip, small cup end.
Found, finally, a full sized check valve, that matches the drawings on the Crosman site,
for part #1322-056 (no longer available).  This was the part I emulated when reducing valve volume.

I will start a discussion thread in the tech section about this.. posting here as it seems to fit here too.

I'll join into the fun, as soon as my chrony is delivered.
I can test stock valves, in the process of making an adjustable piston.
I have several of the old brass 13xx valves; 760 brass valves; and the newer aluminium valve.
Brass and plastic valve stems; long and short (w/ spacer) check valves.
stock steel piston vs stock plastic piston.
I can also test rear cocking vs bolt action.

This makes sense. I think that check valve would make quite a change in itself.

It just dawned on me why Crosman is detuning the 1377 and the 1322.
Pumping effort! Everyone crys about the pumping effort on these guns with that small forearm. My new 1322 pumps eaiser than my old phaze 2 1322. That is, IMO why they are doing it.
We need to keep going and have fun doing it.

Daysailer

Pumping effort.....or......

With soo many of us (not me) trying for greater than 10 pumps, they decided
to increase valve volume with the smaller check valve, and
reshaped the cup to create a bunch of headspace loss.
Safety/liability issues  ???

...or.... maybe larger valve volume helps the .22 models ?
I dont shoot .22 so I have no experience there.

Now with reshaped valve tip, but not piston length/travel....
Same headspace, or more, lost with incomplete cup-valve face contact.

--------------
Add up these "improvements", and they have been creating a 'weak sisiter' version
of a great product.  I know they are smarter than me, but, I can't figure
out thier logic or reasons for the changes. I can see no cost savings in
the pump cup redesign, or the check valve reduced size.  And now the
valve face shaving, with added process to reshape, = more cost and
further reduced preformance.   ???   ???
---------------

If any one has the larger check valves floating around in thier spare parts,
that they want to get rid of..  PM me .
If anyone has the tools to turn some , there may be a market for them.
I hand made a couple of spacers out of nylon bolts, with dremel and files,
to immulate, them in my Quad P mods..
Would be nice to have properly made ones.
Maybe an adjustable piston that uses stock pump cups, too ?

Cost of Flat Top'n is starting to look better.  (did i just say that ?)   ;)

tks for the pm and link.

Summary of my valve volume tests:

My testing yesterday turned up results that are consistant, but less dramatic than I expected.
3 pumps + 16 fps for large old style over current small one.
5 pumps + 14fps
7 pumps + 8
10 pumps -1 fps

see tech section for details.
