Title: 1911 Style Triggers for 13xx/22xx - Hold On Tight
Post by: breakfastchef on January 15, 2013, 04:51:04 AM
Mike at TKO is very close to finally releasing the 1911 style trigger. I have eyed those for months and months, but, alas, I have vconverted over to the 1701P grip frames/trigger group. Maybe he can make a 1911 trigger for that?

I like the lower adjustment arm idea. With a little polishing I thank it will make a good single stage adjustable trigger. He told me he might add a screw to the arm later for people that can't drill a hole in the frame and tap it.

And you still won't be as fast as I am  ;D ;D ;D

Order Date: 1/15
Mail Date: 1/17
Receive Date: 1/18 Thanks Mike!

Snatched from the mailbox moments ago! The trigger is nice, very nice. It came with the 6-32 grub screw and one of Mike's hardened steel pivot pins. A small instruction sheet is also included in the ziploc bag. You can go to the TKO website if you want to read it in color.

I'll be using a stock 2240 grip frame with mold markings intact in the place where you must drill and tap for the grub screw. The instructions tell you this is the best way to get the placement right. Just so you know, last night I started working the mold marks off the frame everywhere else  ;)

As this progresses I'll keep you up to date with pictures and notes.

Do the math ED...

Crosman stock (monkey metal) trigger width = .186"

TKO "1911 Combat Trigger" width = .122" (probably starts with .125" stock, then the surface finish so .003" less)

.122" minus .186" equals .059"

???

Okay, I'll be the huckleberry here.

Ed mentioned that it did not look to be 1/4" (0.25") wide and nowhere in your reply do I see the 1/4" (0.25") mentioned.

Can you explain it further, please?

OK, no more comments from the peanut gallery. You have issues with the trigger, get one in your hand and then make your comments.

For those that are serious about this fantastic new part...

The trigger is sooooooo sweet. You will be amazed at what it feels like. The travel is short.

As stated in the instructions, plain as day, in black and white... and here in red...

"There may be a need to fit the trigger to some frames. We haven't seen any problems with the 4 frames we have tested, but if fitting is required for your particular frame, these areas may need to be filed down to fit.

The 3-screw grip frame trigger cover will need to be altered to use the 1911 blade. Simply trim the small protrusion with a knife or scissors.

I only had one place on the trigger (it's circled in the instructions) that needed fitting and that was for the safety pin to engage properly. A little bit of work with a file fixed that quickly, A stock Crosman black plastic safety and a Don Cothran stainless steel safety works perfect.

Maybe these pictures will help you. All that's left to do is drill the hole in the frame and tap for the grub screw. If you like, I will post that picture too.

Post by: chongman on January 19, 2013, 06:10:51 AM
This is my current setup. I still want to turn a sear spring guide or "button". All the ones I have already made changed the trigger pull weight to much. No problem, got a couple more feet so I'll get it right and then make a bunch of them. With the brass adjuster and spring from the Crosman Custom shop the trigger pull is very light. In my 2300KT I use it turned all the way down. When I tested with the TKO 1911 trigger I ended up about three turns up to get the same pull.

I did not get to drilling the hole for the grub screw. My 6-32 tap...is crap  ;D I have some 4-40 stainless grubs and a real fine set of 4-40 taps so I might go that route instead.

On the face of the trigger...

It came with the machining marks on the surface. You could leave it as is and have a little "grip feel" or work it with some files and abrasives like I'm showing. It can be polished out to a mirror shine if you like. I was thinking of maybe cutting a few grooves in the face, lengthwise. Don't like the pointed corners? Round them off! The trigger is aluminum and very easy to work. It's a custom part that begs to be further customized  :-*

My trigger has shipped!  :D. Figure i will polish everything to a mirror like finish and add a washer tocenter the sear and take up the wobble in the trigger parts and adjust the trigger to where its nice lite and crisp then loctite the adjustment and finally be done with my 2400!  For the 10th time. Lol

Early on I said that this trigger was 1/4" wide, I thought it was by looking at pictures on a website.

My apologies to the forum if I mislead you. I said that without having one. Everything from there on is first hand, with the trigger right in front of me.

All my pictures are real. They are taken with a $120.00 Olympus digital camera. I do not own or use any fancy/magic software that will allow me to create fake pictures.

I enjoy the company of every member of this forum, with exceptions. Everyone was somebody they don't like. There's probably someone that doesn't like me. That's ok, I'm a man and can except that.

I ordered one and Mike sent it out FAST, I had it in hand in 3 days. It does come with machining marks but nothing some 220 sand paper, steel wool and mag wheel polish wont take care of easily.

I added the trigger engagement set screw then cleaned and lubed everything. With the first pull of the trigger it was MILES better then the stock trigger (with a shoe), it had no slop or creep and with some adjustments it has a VERY short and crisp pull.

I did some shooting in my basement with it (40 or so pellets) and I'm very happy with the trigger, it is much better then the stock trigger with a trigger job. I can't wait for spring time so I can really test the accuracy improvements.

The trigger looks much better in person, my camera and the light seems to magnify blemishes X100

I just had to order one of these out of curiosity.  I liked the pin so much that I ordered the spring kit so I could get a couple more pins.  I think the trigger is worth the money, but I wish they would include two pins.  The photos compare it to a stock trigger.  The 1911 trigger is 1/8inch and the stock trigger is built up to 3/16inch in the front.  The rear part of the stock trigger is the same width as the 1911.

I notice that when my safety is on the trigger is pushed into the frame.  This would preclude installing the adjustment screw unless I filed down the trigger a bit.  I'm going to wait until I get my pins and see how it feels installed.

File a small depression in the trigger under the safety. That should provide enough room for set screw adjustment.

HEY! Is the brass adjuster supposed to be on the post like in your pic or does the brass part go up inside the trigger houseing and contact the sear? I have the brass part up cause thats the way it came from the custom shop. Had to do alot of fine tuning on it last week so it did not rub inside the frame. If its supposed to be brass adjuster down that would explain why it was so tight. Lol

Lol
This is the way it came fron the custom shop.  The red piece is the top part of a nylon wall anchor.

Im gunna have to flip mine around to see if it changes anything. Right now my spring sits on the post and my brass part is upinside. It fits nicely and the triggers smooth and i can set it as lite as it gos and still cock the gun where as before is i backed it all the way off it the gun would not cock.
