Title: CO2 2240 is Done, well almost
Post by: whatabout1 on May 10, 2017, 11:56:06 PM
Hey,  My 2240 CO2 .22 rifle is done.....  Almost..... (Grips) I made the custom valve and carbon fiber stock/cheek rest .
CG is slightly behind trigger.  18" barrel, 2x long steel breech, hollow extended bolt, all co2 passages smoothed, polished and
matched.  I rapped the main tube w/ carbon fiber look.  Hides all the writing. The 10-32 set screws pinning the valve are under the rap :(

This baby shoots nice.  15 shots at 580 - 550 fps, next 5 above 500 fps. As accurate as I am capable of :)  I can put the 14g pellet where I
want at 25 yards. Trying to get use to the pistol scope, it's great if the sun isn't at your back.  Let's see, I have used 37 CO2 cartridges so,
probably wasted 5 developing the valve, that's over 600 rounds.

Want to go HPA but I am worried about the weight.  Maybe 2260 S/S tube instead of tank ?

That's a cool looking carbine with good power. :-*   Like the carbon fiber wrap.
What did you use to extend the breech?

Thanks

The extra long steel breech is the front off of the stock style replacement steel breech (an early mod) and a GMAC long steel breech (like the rear sight elim).
Yea, had to figure out a way to move the pistol scope forward. It needs 13" of eye set back, or relief ?.  The front half of that breech has 1 set screw and is
held down at the front by the shimmed yoke.  So it has seemed to have improved accuracy.  Maybe stiffening the barrel ?

Stock and rest are carbon fiber tube, stuffed with foam (swim noodle) and the alum brackets bolted in and then ends filled with epoxy.  Had to use 10-32
nutserts both in the butt bracket and the pistol as the metal could not hold the thread.  The stock is held to 2240 by 3 10-32 screws into nutserts.
Was able to put the cheek rest right where it would align my sight with the pistol scope.  Ends have been dabbed with truck bed liner, even the end of
the moderator just to cut reflection (and show attitude)

Dang, I am loving this build !  Only shooting at the shop where I build her.  25 yds to the trees.  Many a beverage can has been lightened.

Sprayed a lite coat of satin clear over most of the dog.  Wanting to keep the brightness down.

Off to Walmart for another 40 CO2's.

Pretty cool lookin' build 8). I'm kinda wondering with that pistol scope set so high above the barrel, how are you expecting accuracy at anything less than or more than 25 yds? (assuming that's what you've zeroed at). I've got a similar scope arrangement but have the scope mounted much lower (http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g362/topgas1/Air%20Guns/Air%20Pistols/DSCN5720.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/topgas1/media/Air%20Guns/Air%20Pistols/DSCN5720.jpg.html)
and have zeroed mine at 10 yds. Pellet drop probably takes care of accuracy beyond 25 yds but at less than that (most of my air gun shooting) I'd guess you're going to be shooting way low. I guess I'd need to look at some trajectory tables to be sure. Like I said just wonderin'.
The long eye relief scope set ups do take some getting used to. I did have to add a shotgun recoil pad (not in photo) to mine to get the proper eye relief since I couldn't move the scope any more forward on the breech. Pellet loading is a bit more clumsy with the scope down low but I'm able to deal with it.
