Crosman air pistol - General discussion / Re: Update on my 2300S build

Looks like a package is enroute from NL; I wonder what it can be...  ???

I will soon post photos, and a list of upgrades, etc.

I suppose two enemies are condensation (in pump-type AGs, not CO2), and contamination.  I ride bike a lot, and I developed a very effective graphite-and-paraffin (wax) chain-lube method over the years that makes my chains and cassettes last ten times as long as they do for people just using oil or even commercially available wax-based lubes.  The worst part about oil-type lubes is that the constant roostertail of fine sand kicked up by the front tire hits the chain, sticks in the oil, and the fact that the oil moves around means that sand gets worked into the joints where it does its grinding work, and eventually the chain skips.  Sand won't stick to paraffin wax, and doesn't get carried into the insides of the joints; but the wax by itself is not a very good lubricant, so I'm just using it as a binder for the extra fine graphite powder which by itself looks like soot, not sparkly flakes.  The drivetrain never gets grimy and never needs cleaning.  In most environments, an airgun wouldn't have the exposure to the fine sand, but still I wonder...

Has anyone had any luck significantly extending the life of their air pistols with regular maintenance and cleaning? I've heard various anecdotes about this, but I'm curious to know if there's any substantial evidence or if it's just a myth. Can routine care really prolong the lifespan of our gear?

It depends on range as DHunter mentioned, if I remember right the ideal length is around 18" for velocity and everything, it'll definitely be quieter...

That type stock isn't the greatest but it isn't bad for the price, I have several, main issue is the cheek weld is low with a scope... My 2240 converted to .177 with a long barrel and carbine stock is a hoot to shoot.

That's a good find on pellets! I would have definitely jumped on those

You can generally get more power from a longer barrel, up to a point, as that gives more space for the pellet to get accelerated.  Accuracy will generally not be affected, until the barrel gets so long that it starts "whipping" because it's not stiff enough for its length, commonly said to be experiencing harmonics, although that term is not accurate.  The effect is unwanted.

Can the length of the barrel dramatically influence the accuracy and range of air-guns? I'm considering customizing my 2240XL and wondered if investing in a longer barrel would improve my marksmanship. Thoughts and experiences?

Your memory story has started me thinking about when I took up shooting.   It was sometime around 71 or 72.  There was no licensing or any other nonsense then.  Every hardware store sold guns and ammo.  People weren't afraid of loud noises or their own shadow back then.  A man's word and a handshake sealed a deal and someone in trouble could always count on a neighbor or even a stranger lending a hand.  We came running to help and then went on about our own business.  Times sure have changed.  Anyway, I bought an old Lee Enfield in .303 and a 5 gallon pail of surplus military.  I had to think long and hard on that purchase because as I remember it cost 15$.  I've bought and sold more guns than I can remember over the years and now wish I had kept them all. 😒  I was working in a Ford car plant, two weeks days and two weeks afternoons and when on the afternoon shift would farm in the daytime.  Hundreds of acres of corn and beans with no one around.  I began shooting 5 gallon pails (they were made of steel back then, not plastic) from one end of a fallow field to the other and then back again.  That old rifle with a steel butt plate gave a sore shoulder and was it ever loud!  Couldn't do that around here today 🤫  Sure do miss the days of smaller government and no Kevin's or Karen's!

Hi MoWog72!  It is the Canada Day weekend here and I've been busy with chores.  More livestock coming in on Tuesday.  I'm starting to feel my age but am so blessed to have this lifestyle.  Just haven't had time to check in here.  Amazon delivered a UTG Picatinny Rail and I grabbed the Crosman 32 mm Reflex Sight at the local hardware for the 2240XL.  Hoping to throw it all together later today and see if it can hit anything.  Then try to post a picture.

How do you like that stock and scope?  If I understand correctly, the pump and CO2 guns do not have a double recoil and therefore do not damage scopes.  I really like the looks of your kit!
(That look is what inspired me to get a pistol that had mod potential).

Wishing you a Happy Independence Day coming up.  Hope you have great weather and get a wee bit ofshooting in!

I understand what you mean. My in-laws had about 10 acres but have since relocated in retirement. I think like must kids, I got my first BB gun at Christmas in pretty much the same way as Ralphie in  "A Christmas Story".  :)  I had to do some research to identify the model ; a Daisy Spittin' Image" Model 94 Winchester. My father got  himself what must have been the Daisy "Spittin Image" Six_Shooter and I remember us in the back yard shooting mostly at tin cans.
In the 70s I had a Daisy CO2 200 multi-shot BB pistol which started leaking and was serviced through a local Sporting goods store at what I believe was more that the cost of the gun. Not long after it started to leak again.
I few years ago I bought my brother and myself Crosman 2100 Classic Air Rifles for Christmas as a goof. I'd challenge him to shooting contests... which didn't always pan out. LI like the 2100 as a open sight plinker with BBs and more accurately with pellets.
Thanks for prompting some good memories.
Keep shooting and have fun! Let us know where this hobby takes you.
