Title: The Ultimate Crosman CO2 pistol
Post by: The Zen Master on June 05, 2018, 12:38:48 AM
I will probably order a 2300KT from Crosman with a long steel breech, 10" barrel and blade front sight in .22 and I wondered what ch'all might add to it to improve the performance - is it possible to hot rod? If so, how?

I have a P1322 with long steel breech, Benjamin Marauder trigger, and a Burris Fastfire 3 and I really like the Fastfire so probably put one on the new pistol too.

I had a Crosman .177 CO2 pistol in the late 70's (cartridge screwed in to pistol grip) and it wasn't all that great. I'm guessing the quality has improved!

I have recently ordered and am waiting for the exact pistol you are thinking about, 2300KT with a long steel breech, 10" barrel and blade front sight in .22.  The only thing I added to the order was a 2x pistol scope with mounts.  It was so inexpensive that I couldn't pass it up.  I have a two stage Marauder trigger assembly that I will be installing on the 2300KT.  Beyond that I don't have plans for anything else other than maybe a TKO muzzle brake.

The 2300KT is really the most economical way to get a really nice CO2 pistol.

Good luck with your endeavor.

Don

I thought a 2300KT already has the 2-stage trigger? I am pretty sure that the T = target?

Custom Shop guns do not have the 2-state trigger. You will need to add that along with a solid hammer.
My personal recommendation would be to go with a 2400KT in carbine form. That way you can shoot as a rifle with the stock or swap for grips to use as a pistol. The 10.1" LW barrel should be on your purchase . Well worth the money!!

Thank you for the heads-up arkmaker! I would have been disappointed about the trigger - their website shows a 2-stage trigger in the "pictures."

It's a normal trigger with a travel limiting set screw. Don't know why they don't offer the 1701p trigger in the CCS guns.

OK so a 2400KT does not have a 10" LW barrel option - only 14" +. I suppose it could be cut back to 10".

Does anyone know it the 1322 plastic grips will fit the 2400 grip frame?

I think I would just order the stock separately for the 2300 if you want a 10" barrel.   LW barrels IMO are too good to cut down.

Yes, the 1322 grips will fit a 2400.  They use the same grip frame.

Isn't the Benjamin Marauder pistol trigger (the same trigger I installed on my P1322 American Classic) the same trigger as a 1701P? It looks exactly the same to me???

If my thinking is right I should get the 2300 with the 10" LW and add the Benjamin Marauder trigger myself.

Marauder pistol, 1701, and 1720 trigger assemblies are the same.    Technically, called grip frame assembly by Crosman.

Ordered 2300 KT with 10" LW barrel, long steel breech, normal front sight, and standard plastic grips.

I will order the Marauder Grip Frame Assembly after the pistol gets here.

I guess I need another Fastfire 3!

Learned something new! I always assumed that the m-rod pistol and the m-rod rifle shared the same trigger assembly.

I should have added the assembly part number - 2220-103.

I really like the Millett SP1 red dot.  It has a 3 moa dot and is light and really only needs one mount.  The regular dovetail mount works great.  I use it for 10M & 5M target shooting.  No complaints.
This target was shot from a rested position.  I'm not that good free hand. ;)

Here is a P-rod pistol mounted in a cut down & drilled for gauge 2260 stock with a M-rod trigger assy.  It is a sweet shooter with a LW barrel.

I just discovered that I made an error when I placed the order and now I have a .177 pellet gun coming that i do not want - I wanted .22  >:(

We'll find out today if Crosman will fix this of I am scr**ed and have to sell the thing.  >:( >:( >:(

Aghhh hey do NOT MAKE a 10" .22 LW barrel.

They offered to change the order to a 10" Crosman .22 barrel but I am just disgusted they don't have the barrel I want. I told them to just leave the order alone and I'll sell it.
Title: Re: The Ultimate Crosman CO2 pistol
Post by: BillK on June 12, 2018, 09:26:57 PM
Now that you have ordered a Custom Shop item you may qualify to order a 14" LW barrel.  That barrel could be cut from the transfer port end to any size.  Wyoman has much info on drilling a new transfer port & doing the lead in.
Just a thought.....  ???
Title: Re: The Ultimate Crosman CO2 pistol
Post by: The Zen Master on June 12, 2018, 11:00:06 PM
Ahhhh it just frustrates me because I should have ordered the 2400 with the 14" LW .22 barrel and cut it down.

They should organize the barrel selections by caliber, not a scrolling band. In all my looking back and forth between the models and options I selected the wrong barrel - and they don't offer the barrel I want.

I'll sell it. I'll be fine with my 1322.

I know you are pissed right now >:(  but, later think about that your going to take a good hit on selling a new/used gun.  Probably more than the cost of a new 14" LW barrel.   Plus you will have a 10" LW barrel to either use or sell.  You really do have some options.  Keep the door open. ;)
Title: Re: The Ultimate Crosman CO2 pistol
Post by: The Zen Master on June 29, 2018, 11:19:26 PM
It's here - I'm half-surprised there are no markings on the barrel to signify it as a match barrel

I haven't shot it but I do not like it and will sell it. I would have been better off building what I want from parts even if I had to cut a barrel down.
Title: Re: The Ultimate Crosman CO2 pistol
Post by: The Zen Master on July 02, 2018, 05:47:14 PM
Crosman is being nice enough to offer to sell me a 14.6" LW barrel (that I can have cut down) for the custom shop price, or a Crosman 10.1" .22 barrel for less than $10.00!

I'm going for the Crosman barrel and forget this LW nonsense.

Ordered the Crosman 10.1" .22 barrel & bolt from Crosman and I have a Marauder 2-stage trigger (1701) on the way.

I need a set of 1322 American Classic grips.

Next time - just buy your air pistol from Amazon and then get the parts you want from Alliance Hobby and build your own pistol.

Title: Re: The Ultimate Crosman CO2 pistol
Post by: crossliner on July 11, 2018, 02:44:00 AM
CCS guns are much cheaper than if you build one. Moreover, the LW barrel would have given you excellent accuracy. Outside, they look like Crosman barrels. It is the rifling that is different.
Title: Re: The Ultimate Crosman CO2 pistol
Post by: The Zen Master on July 11, 2018, 03:49:04 AM
I just wanted a nice 10.1" .22 CO2 pistol - it would have been great if they had a 10.1" .22 LW barrel, but they don't. I ordered the .177 LW by mistake it is completely worthless to me.

It would have been cheaper to buy a basic .22 CO2 pistol from Amazon and add the Marauder (1701) trigger from Alliance - instead now I have a pile of parts I will never use.

Also, the MIM adjustable rear sight - another waste of money that needs a shim to fill the gap between the dovetail in the steel breech, and the sight itself, to get the sight to sit at the bottom of the dovetail so you don't bottom out the rear height adjustment getting on target...

Sheez!

The steel breech that comes free from The Crosman Custom Shop is also a fine deal  :-*

Personally, I prefer .177.

I was able to order a 2400KT with a simulated carbon fiber stock and forearm during the 4th of July. That time, they were on sale for 20% less and with free shipping to boot. Of course, I got a 14.6" Lothar barrel. I have also ordered Don Cothran parts for it because I plan to sell the tube, breech, etc..

Do you intend to sell that 10" .177 LW of yours?

Crosman sent me a 12" long .22 barrel without the flat for the front sight, and strangely, it has 3 flats milled on the top of the barrel???

Anyways, I am again waiting for my 10.1" .22 barrel...

I'm not ready to start figuring out what to sell.

Is there an O-ring slot milled into the breech end, inside of the barrel?   Different looking transfer port hole?
That looks like a Prod barrel.

Maybe it's an omen...

I put the Marauder (1701) trigger on it along with the plastic grips from my 1722 Classic and shimmed the LPA sight in - it feels nice - who knows, maybe I'll shoot a few puny 17's through it tomorrow just for the heck of it.

.22's kill squirrels way better.

OK, got an email from Crosman my barrel was shipped - I wonder what barrel I will get this time?  :)

I took the 1701 trigger apart last night and cleaned it - it was a bit gooey feeling - and yah there was some goo in there, and while I realize it is not the Geissele trigger I have on my SPR, it still has a strange feel...

If I cock the pistol and take up the first stage it feels good-enough, but, if then, I release the trigger and re-take-up the first stage, it does not feel the same - almost slightly sticky - and all the surfaces look good under a 7X MaginVisor, so I'm stumped?

Its better than the factory trigger but not as nice as the 1701 trigger I put on my 1322 American Classic.

3 pumps, 4 shots at 15 yards using .4.52 JSB 8 grain pellets  :-*

Was planning to change the barrel to a LW but now I am liking this one a lot  :-*

The 2 moa size dot on my Vortex Sparc helped a lot with the aiming.

Oh, I polished the leade and the port and cleaned the bore with Hoppes, Mother's Polish then Ballistoled it.

I have had always gotten very good Crosman barrels in .177, just saying  :-*

We have about the same barrel, btw.

My adapter from Poland arrived today, so I was able to mount the Donny FL Tanto.

Fit and finish of the adapter muy exemplary  :-* It looks like a deep black nitride with no anomalies whatsoever but it is heavy being all steel!

It is this one and has an undercut, so my barrel is still free floated:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/muzzle brake-ADAPTER-1-2-20-UNF-Benjamin-Discovery-Crosman-2240-11-11mm-cut/173288399186?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Took exactly 14 days to arrive to my end. It stayed at the customs (NY) for 6 days.

I will order another one for my 2400KT  :-*

Same target, same 3 pumps, same 15-yard distance, same pellets, etc. as when it was unsuppressed and the POI did not change. I did 3 shots on this one but it already had 4 existing ones:

It is almost complete. The Magnum Airpower Super Sear and Don Cothran trigger have both been installed. The only thing lacking is the ATI cheekrest, which I ordered last night  :-*

Second 5 +1 (previous 5 were RWS Superdome 14.5g)

1st shot was exactly at the top of the black 6-ring to verify on-paper with new pellet (RWS Meisterkugeln 14g). Next 5 shots were aimed dead center of white 9-ring - yes, 5 shots! 5-yards, standing, 2-hands, leaning on a door frame.

I cannot explain this...

5-shots, 7.5 yards (farthest I can get indoors), sitting, 2-hands on a stack of towels for a rest...

I am going to try again tomorrow and see what happens. If some shots went through the same hole, I need new glasses.

Just a little caution.  If you install a Marauder pistol trigger assembly, you will also need to change out the hammer.  Be sure the replacement hammer has a notch for the little breech screw in the 2300KT steel breech.  If the hammer doesn't have a notch cut in it, it will hit the screw and won't fire, and it will damage the screw.. FWIW

Thanks Mulie,

I bought my triggers from Alliance Hobby - both came with new machined hammers that are appropriate for each type (American Classic pumper vs. 2300KT with hidden screw steel breech). I do not know who else sells this stuff or makes hammers but I am 100% satisfied with their service.

I tried to shoot a 1-hole group yesterday and I got close but I guess my old eyes aint what they used to be...

But still fun to shoot groups, and squirrels...

Group on right is close, group on left I adjusted the Fastfire down and probably got a little lazy on the trigger. 5-shot groups.
