Title: Pics of the PDG Bomb & Destroyer
Post by: tinker on March 13, 2015, 10:35:17 PM
Here is a picture of the PDG pellets.
Left to right :Destroyer, Bomb, and Crosman Ultra Magnum.   The top row are straight from the can the second row is from pushing them thru a stock 2240 barrel.

They both have more pointed heads rather than round.   The Bombs drop in past the parrel port so I have little hope in the accuracy of this one.  The Destroyers are tight and they may shoot in a high powered pcp, 950+ fps.  I don't have the shooting space at home and so there's no accuracy testing.

would you happen to have a vernier caliper to measure length would you?

I'll have mine hopefully this week.  Will see how they do in the Disco, Sumatra, and QB.

The Destroyers will load in a MRod magazine but the Bomb is too long.

I was curious on the length to get an idea if they want a  faster twist barrel...

Thanks I think they will be fine even with a sloe twist then...

I got my Bombs and Destroyer and the Destroyer's fit fairly snug, the Bombs are nice and snug.  I shot an aerosol can (not under pressure) and the Bombs put a big entry hole in it, and the Destroyer put a almost perfect hole in it.  I will take pics.

Ok the second batch seems to be a better fit than the first.

If they do well I will order more.

I like the Destroyer's.  I still need to test out to 50 yards to see how accurate.

I am going to have to pick some up...

I have my MK1322(MK177-13xx Hybrid pumper) up to 21.5 fpe with 14.3 CPHP I think that is just barely enough to toss these out what do you guys think...

I also picked up a Glennfield/Marlin model 60 barrel(micro groove 16 land/groove) that slugs at just a hair under .220 that I will be turning down to 9/16 O.D. to try. I pushed some CPHP(and other) pellets thru and got just the rifling marks I like, light on the head and good on the skirt but not to deep  with no smearing...

How are these  PDG .22 on head/skirt/body(destroyer) size?

I am getting the 21+ fpe with  about .242ci on the valve size and 20 pumps and if I go all out I should be able to get  about  a .35ci with a valve extension which will hopefully get me closer to about 25-28 fpe on 25-30 pumps. I am pretty sure that is enough to get these  to 650-700 fps...

I hope to do some 50 yard testing tomorrow, but at 18 yards they show real promise out of the Disco, now I need to try them in the Sumatra.

Looking good Joe.  I tried some at 10 yards going 900 fps, fooling around and the group wasn't the best.  I think they were pushed too fast.  Need to try to shoot something else slower than my .22 Condor SS!

K.O. about 700 fps should be good to go.

I hope to use the Destroyers in place of slugs if they perform at 50 yards.  The shot on the can dropped about 1.5" from actual POA, but that was expected since my Disco is set up for the 14.3 Benji's.

Got bored, talking to my bud on the GTA...so I made some experiments---

Destroyer next to Destroyer with cross cut and Destroyer hollowed out and filled with super glue.  Wanted to use hot glue, but need a smaller tip.

I went out p-dawg today with my youngest and my bud Jason, but the wind was to bad to do any testing.  But at 40 yards they shot pretty straight.  I think they are better suited in a pcp and not a springer like others are getting bad results with...the Destroyer and Bomb pellets.

Joe, might be true.

So I shot the molested Destroyers into my clay.  With enough fps, I am pretty sure the ones I drill out hollowpoints into will be nasty.  The ones with the cross cuts will need to be pried open a little to get the results I want.  But I have high hopes for making HP Destroyers.  Hollowed out one on right.

The hollow point idea may be the way to go.

I'm thinking so.  So much that I am about to make up about 50 and order a few more tins.

Here go you Glen.  I drilled this one short of 1/8" with a 5/64" bit and used the Sumatra on the red dot at about the first 1/4 turn on the power wheel.

Now that looks like a pellet that should anchor a few pests!  How do they shoot in the Sumatra?

Today we tried some on an empty spray paint can and the accuracy was good enough to make my partner smile.  About 30 yards out. Two 5" diameter coconuts were blown off the tree shooting Bomb .22 pellets out of a 24" barreled Condor! One shot per coconut.
