Title: Crosman Hammer Springs
Post by: CraigH on November 18, 2019, 05:36:25 PM
Looking through stickies, I did not see a concise list of hammer springs.

Crosman Hammer Springs Useful for 13XX and 24XX Applications.

Part Number   Length       Wire            Used on

782-024    --   2.015   --   0.030   --   2240/50/60, 2300T
2300A046  --   1.935   --   0.028   --   2300S (with PA)
781A051    --   1.950   --   0.035   --   1377, 1322, 2289
2200A032  --   2.400   --   0.036    --   2100, 2200 Rifle
2261-009   --   2.250   --   0.035    --   Original Discovery Rifle
2261-A009  --  1.642   --    0.043   --   Challenger CH2009, Late Discovery Rifles
GBMP-009   --   1.472  --   0.047   --   Maximus, Full Power, Not Euro
1700-009    --   1.500   --   0.035   --   PRod

There are music wire springs 1.5" long of 0.040" wire and 0.042" wire available from outside sources that work well, but I do not recall where purchased.

Hope this is helpful and error free.

Would any of these be suitable for the SSP 250?
I'm guessing not but figured I'd ask.

The SP250 is a "rear cocker" like the "pre-C" 1377 rear cocker pistols.    The hammer spring and cocking knob is an assembly which does not readily disassemble.   The design and the spring in it are very different.

You may already have the Crosman manual and EVP, but here is the location:

Probably not the spring anyway. I suspect the sear is not engaging the full power setting since I can only get two clicks not three when cocking it as far back as I can get it. There's some further travel after cocking it that far.
The first click seems to be there only to block movement if the cocking piece slips out of your hand while cocking, like the quarter cock notch of a Colt SAA or 1911 hammer .

im not sure how the multi click hammer works but when I had a rear cocker 1377 to extra power out of the spring I added a 7mm washer between the knob and hammer spring as a pre load. to get the washer on there using a Dremel 2 cuts were made just far apart enough to slide over the assembly rod

Always found it good to "cross pollinate" posts, especially if it made the information tree grow, so to speak  :-* -

from "The Old Days", three of my old posts on the "non-standard" springs, and some factory springs, too :

Speaking of music wire, here is a chart of music wire size
with corresponding diameter - from my piano tuning days  :)

Yes, they are rolls. They go fast when you restring a piano ....   :-*
