before I decide to re-invent the wheel has anyone made a template of the hand grip and for-end????
I have seen a number of grips that I like but I haven't seen the any For-ends that meet my aesthetic and functional requirements so I'm diving into my wood stash. Thinking about using Wenge since I have a nice chunk and after using it for replacement chisel/gouge handles I have found it has a nice feel in addition to its looks

How does one go about making a Pistol grip.
Are there any Templates involved or do you use power tools or carve them out FreeHand?
I would love to see a video of the Making of pistol Grips or a Rifle stock

Aaahhh....so THATS how its done......
Even with the Power Tools, thats a lot of work.
And the final Shaping is a LOT of skill.....

I cut them out of plastic. I do the same for each gun grip type I make. I don't have a digital file. :-[
For a 13xx or a 22xx (as they're the same grips) I put it flat on a sheet and trace around it with a marker.
I also punch a hole through the screw hole as it guarantees alignment later on. Once you have the outside shape
you can flip it over and mark the recess areas. The dremel is your friend if you have one! (for the wood not the templete! LOL )
I could dribble on for hours so here is a link to one I did earlier (BTW the bolting of the two blanks makes a consistent shaping)
Sorry it's not a 1377 but it'll give an idea of the template. ;) The plastic is a good way to keep check and doesn't matter if it gets ruined.

I also liked the Violin Case :D.....That is SO 1930 Ganster, that I kept expecting to see a Picture of Al Capone!
