My last name is Wood. 67 was my football number when I was in high school and I used woody67 as my email. I'm thinking it's time to drop the 67! I hadn't really thought about how long it's been and what that number came from.

Sloth: picked up in junior high doing silly things like flinching contests and such... I'm not much of a flincher and generally slow to react.  Wren & Stimpy was "in" at the time and there was a sloth that showed up in a couple episodes that gave my friends the idea.   It basically came from kid's messing with each other, but I always kind of liked it so I kept using it for things.

Art:  it's what I do for a living.  I've been a working illustrator since 97 and I've been doing concept art for a few years less than that.

First four letters of my last name and the first four letters of my first name.  Started out as an assigned email username and, as far as I have been able to determine so far, no one else in the world uses it so I have stuck with it for things requiring a username.

JEB is my initals.  Bert is the first four letters of my last name and a nickname I got in the Service.  I don't use it much because my dad was a career serviceman and his nickname was Bert.
A real play on words came when SWMBO pronounced Jebert in french...sounds like "Je-bear" (with a soft J).  That might stick if I am not too old for a nickname.
Cheers,
Jerry

They make some nice guitars. I have an Art & Lutherie which is they're less expensive brand. Kinda like Epiphone is to Gibson or Squire is to Fender. I think I got it for around $200 when I was in high school (circa 2000?) and it's just amazing for that price. Mostly made of cherry. Wish is wasn't stained, though. Why do they always have to stain cherry that horrid red color? Just let the color age in on its own!

My forum name is boringly obvious - I used it cause it's easy to remember.  Now that I find myself checking in fairly often, I'm starting to think I should have chosen something more original!

The main reason for my post is actually a request for Carl to explain "Quickster".  ???

Title: Re: What Does your forum name mean ?
Post by: quickster47 † on March 15, 2012, 02:23:39 AM
My oldest daughter gave me the 'Quickster' moniker many, many moons ago when she was in college.  We used to joke around with each other and she commented one time that I was like a 'jokester' but was really a 'quickster'.  Since that time, probably 25 years ago at least, I've had many other friends call me 'Quickster' without knowing anything about my daughter's nickname for me.  And after all these years it has just stuck.  Even my wife now calls me 'quickster' when she is being serious or really wants something, like my attention.

When I played for the Dallas Cowboys in 1968, only for about 10 weeks before I was cut, Bob Hayes was on the team.  At that time Bob Hayes was known as 'Bullet Bob' because he could run the 100 meters in 10 seconds.  He always told me that he was fast but would never be 'quick'.

I added the 47 because I was born in 1947 and a true 'war baby'.

In the mid 90's I was quite active in a couple of chat rooms on Prodigy, became long-distance friends with some people from the rooms, and would talk with them on the phone. Apparently I have a tendency to be soft-spoken, thus some of those friends called me "Mister Whispers" and the nickname stuck.  8)

I'm new here, Just today bought a 2240 for silly money (probably twice as much here in the UK as in US). Already have a 1300 needing new seal kit hence buying a new 2240. Anyway, I call myself Igotknobblies as I'm also into a spot of Enduro/hare and hounds/long distance trials. Have a CCM404DS which for those of you not in the know is a Brit built frame using KTM suspension (white power) and Suzuki DRZ400E engine (the pokey one with about 40bhp). Anyway, I'm running about the chunkiest knobbly tyres money can buy and still be legal on the road. God only knows why as at any one time there's about 1 square inch of rubber on tarmac! Good in the mud though!
Regards to all.

My daughters nick-named me Ark Maker when I was building small boats and it stuck. Now it more aptly refers to my arch-ing pellets that I lob at paper targets.

Here is a pic of the Pointy Skiff. A Bolger designed, simple to build (weekend) plywood flat bottom rowboat. An excellent way for anyone to see if they like building boats. So, when you guys think modding 13xx and 22xx pistols is expensive, try building a few boats, then you won't feel so bad  ;D

My nickname was given way back when around the end of high school. Me and some friends always played fast pitch baseball with a hard rubber ball. A "tater" is a nickname for a home run and we used to taunt whoever was pitching that they "serve up a tater" on the next next pitch.
We all started calling each other tater for a while, but it stuck on me for some reason. Some friends still call me by it even 30 years later.

I'm having fun resurrecting old posts. mudduck48, mudduck is my old CB handle and 48, is my year of birth.  QUACK! :-* :-*
Were you by chance in Florida in the 70's? I recall talking to a mudduck on the CB when I was between duty stations.

I think I was in Germany at that time, also, I was about 250 miles from your location - I do not think the CB went that far.  :)

The big dog in our area, Rotten Ron, said, "who is that mudduck out there"? I said, It is I, the mudduck honky. And that is how it started. Rotten Ron had a 5000 wt liner, and every one could hear him. But, I had altitude and I boomed down on him. He would key up and all he head was me. AUDIO, I NEED AN AUDIO CHECK, BREAK,  BREAK!!! Yep, them were the good ole days.  :-\ :-\ :-* :-*

You describe the exact reason I quit using the CB.  The CB was useful and pleasant when only a few people were using it, but as more and more people starting using it you could not have a decent conversation with anyone without being interrupted and insulted, and I really did not like being insulted by someone I could not touch.  :)

What does "T-hunt them down" mean?  ???

I've wanted to get a CB for the cabin for years, but have no idea where to start and what to look for. I am afraid in doing so will lead to yet ANOTHER expensive hobby, sort of like airgunning.  :o

Not at all. This is what we used to do back in the day. T-hunts. Someone would go hide and turn his radio on, put a rubber band on the mic. and we would go look for them. T-hunt.

Noah, Go SHORTWAVE!!

Talk to people all over the world. A friend had/has a nice set up. He started for under a couple of hundred and added stuff and upgraded over time. Really heads over CB's. When he started, I think he said the antenna was his biggest purchase. More than the radio itself? Maybe I don;t have that right??

I have a CB in a box somewhere that I got back in Florida. Had it on the truck for a time, but not the same as back in the 70's. Lot's of buttheads out there and some have systems that'll drown out everyone and anything, so off it came and got stuck in a box. Go Shortwave and I bet you'll not regret it.

I absolutely agree.  All my CB stuff became trash to me.  I had several friends with ham radio stations and they worked very well. It is expensive and I think you have to pass an exam and get a license.

OK, as long as you are not angry. When I was visiting Florida, every time I turned on the CB mudduck was on the key - MUDDUCK! MUDDUCK! MUDDUCK! on and on and on. I was not in the mood to play, I just wanted to talk to friends. Subsequently, I found that there was an enormous amount of people that had no mission in life other than interrupting other peoples conversations.

Air Gun Ninja. I actually have a background in ninjutsu, but I try to keep the cliche alive of having the word "ninja" as an internet handle. And it makes it easy for other people on the boards cuz they just call me ninja, which is totally corny but what can I say, I'm that guy.

I was joining several forums one day and the names I normally used were taken.  I could not think of anything that suited me, so I decided to use a number. My favorite milsurp rifle is a Mosin-Nagant Polish M44 made in 1952 -- 7624452.  One of the forums I joined banned me because they do not like numbers.  Check out the link for some interesting reading.  :)

Mine's pretty lame, back in high school (so that would have been about 17 years ago) for the bag of sugar baby thing you had to do in junior health you had to name your bag of sugar, and I named it Fred Bob because I thought it was funny for whatever reason :), then when it came time to join AOL Messenger in '00 I had no idea on a username, fredbob was taken, I drive a Ford Ranger so it became rangerfredbob. My real name is Scott Fery just so it's out there :). Of course on the Ranger related forums I'm a different username (I got really creative with that one, scotts90ranger... from that you can probably imagine the year of my Ranger) for whatever reason, it's the internet, it doesn't have to make sense :)

When I got back into airguns, it was with the idea of building one. While doing research on the subject, I came across a spudgun website and found I needed a forum name. I had gone by Making toys on a couple others (waste oil/alternate energy, bio diesel and rc foamies), and thought to change it up some...for some reason at the time, I thought Geppetto was a toy maker....and spelled Gippeto.  ;D

In case anyone was curious. :)

I gave that some thought and some trying to shoot for accuracy at ten meters, not good, too shakey for sure  :-\ :-\ :-\

Now I have an awesome idea, a heavy concrete mount in the ground with a sturdy vise mounted on it, clamp the gun in a custom built mount in the vise and actuate the trigger with a quality radio controlled solenoid  ;)

Now I do realize that a shotgun is probably the only way to go, not exactly a comp shoot thing though  :( :( :(
