Title: .30 cal.
Post by: Trophyhunter49 on January 12, 2016, 05:04:04 PM
Ok Guys, I'm looking for a .30 cal. barrel for my next build! I've sent Green Mt. email and they want just sale ONE barrel ! Lothar Walther's barrels are .670  ext. diam. and I need 1/2 in. diam. and I don't think they have the port in them either! If you know where I can get one ready to go please let me know. I have one of Baker's big bore breech now and that's whatI want the barrel to fit.

Could help you out if you don't mind shipping to/from Canada. Have .30 pellet, .308 and 9mm Tj's liners @ 24"loa on hand and can machine to suit.

Just need the receiver to fit it too...and the bolt if you have one. Figure $200 for the barrel/machining and ~$35 for a bolt and handle in stainless if needed.

Price plus actual shipping.

Should end up with a good bit of thump using the Cothran valve...and still be easy to cock. Good choice. :-*

Figuring transfer port ~ .220" or so....just under 75%.

Can  anyone confirm outer diameter of transfer port "flat" milled into valve body is 3/8"??

I just ordered a big bore breech from Baker as well, I would like to get either a .30 cal barrel or 9mm barrel from Track of the Wolf .
The gun I had planned on converting is my 1322, I may have missed it somewhere but what gun are you using as your base?
I know the 1322 is pretty low powered for a big bore, but I really just wanted a proof of concept to see if I can do it. I have ordered a flat top piston and valve combo and a Boss transfer port from Alchemy Airwerks to bump up the available power. I plan onupgrading the hammer and hammer spring too along with possibly a power adjuster too. Is the barrel you have made specific for airguns, or is it a firearm barrel?

I'm having Don Cothran building me a stainless steel Disco tube , so i would say a Disco is the base. The barrel is one of TJ's .

I figure if it shoots decent enough I can use the breech on a Disco build.

Mike sounds like a really neat build you are planning out.

I built a .25 caliber race gun using one of Gippeto's barrels and couldn't have been more pleased with his work.  He is a fine craftsman.

So hurry up and start posting your pictures so we can all enjoy this with you.  ;)

I did ! I tested the set up with a a breech and barrel . I put it all together and filled it with 3500 PSI and let it sit for and hour and NO leaks were found . Then I degas it and set it aside untill the rest of the parts get here. I should have told this at first ,it did not come with the fill adapter! This pic. was made just before I set it aside!! Don always test his parts before shipping them too !!  :-*

Yes Sir, The PROD and the Disco have the same diameter , Also same as the 22XX tubes! That's what makes it so easy to build an inexpensive PCP !

Hey TH...
Could you use one of these?...a Wyo-port:
(http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh508/WyoMan/3050/TP1_zpsut0yq95a.jpg) (http://s1249.photobucket.com/user/WyoMan/media/3050/TP1_zpsut0yq95a.jpg.html)

Fits in the big valve like this:
(http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh508/WyoMan/3050/TP2_zpsfbab5gno.jpg) (http://s1249.photobucket.com/user/WyoMan/media/3050/TP2_zpsfbab5gno.jpg.html)

Is just marginally smaller than .250" i.d. The length will be too long but you can cut (sand) to fit:
(http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh508/WyoMan/3050/TP3_zpscerauhcx.jpg) (http://s1249.photobucket.com/user/WyoMan/media/3050/TP3_zpscerauhcx.jpg.html)

pm me if you can use one and I'll mail it with a couple extra o-rings - guaranteed not to leak - sort of  :D

Good luck and keep posting the progress  :-*

Thx

Title: Re: .30 cal.
Post by: WyoMan on February 22, 2016, 01:24:34 AM
That's pretty close, Al
Sleeve is .270" long but I went with metric o-rings - 1.5mm x 6.5mm. They have a larger i.d. and slightly smaller o.d. than the -010...some room for the compression.
The oal is .388". Figuring the o-rings can compress about 50 thou gives .338"...
Cothran c-b                .150
Tube                           .063
Breech plus BBL c-b    .125

Sound like it's in the ball park?
thanks

Give or take...I made up four "tubes" and put a couple o-rings in the package with them. Mike will have to take them down to correct length.

Al
Title: Re: .30 cal.
Post by: WyoMan on February 22, 2016, 04:12:56 AM
That's the best way...take down to fit. We don't know if all the valve / tube tolerances will be the same so there are too many variables.
They certainly aren't a "one size fits all" but the o-rings do allow about a .040" range +/- ...so we're playing horse shoes instead of darts  :)
thanks

You got a problem with that? I got trophyhunter , who lives in MS, mixed up with monkeyday, who lives in CO. In Co. you will get P-dogs, In MS you might find armadillos and raccoons. In my back yard you get treerats, raccons and possums. :P

Being that I was borned in Mississippi and have had opossum fixed by our maids, I can say you haven't lived until you give it a try.  A little bit grissly but quite tasty.
