Title: What is your current Crosman project ?
Post by: tayloriand on July 29, 2011, 07:38:32 PM
I've ended up doing a few at the same time .....

2240 stock .22 barrel with Rosewood Rick Grips (as avatar)
Got me a slip on silen cer, brass power adjuster, short Crosman steel breech (thanks 1377x) and 2x20 scope
Going to order a Mellon Flow thro' bolt

2440 Stubbie
Got me tube/frame
Going to order a Mellon 6" barrel, barrel band, front sight and Flow thro' bolt

1377 The Hunter
Got an almost new donor pistol
Fitted 2289 forearm and black grips
Got a GMAC  FTP/Valve and Mellon Pin (bought from BBS)
Going to order a Mellon 12" .177 barrel and Flow thro' bolt
I'll also need a silen-cer and may get a light folding bipod.
I'd really like to try a pistol sling!

Also purchased a Mini SWAT Scope 3 - 12 X 44 (30mm) for a FT Pistol
But I think I'll buy a Brocock Aim X Grand Prix with silen-cer and I'd also like a bipod

Will post pics soon

Cheers
Ian

Since I am new to this I have started my first one  its a 2240 and so far I have:
Added a steel breech
added a 12in barrel
brass end cap
brass bolt

I plan on adding wood grips, brass co2 cap, brass barrel band, brass trigger and a 3" brass barrel break. Then I will start on some internal mods for it. I will post a pic later.

My turn, I'll try not to balls this up like all my other posts today. Someone asked if I'd had a heavy night this morning. No I hadn't!  ;D

Here we go (quick check I'm in the right thread!):

1. AS2250 Quickshot repeater (most current)

2. 1322 (ongoing 1377 convert. 20" barrel. Arrived today was a GMAC flat top valve set and a 2289 alloy black band.
All sprayed olive green but may become camo, folding AK stock all wrapped up in a folding WWII repro M1 garand paratroopers holster.)

3. 2250b dragunov (in embryo stage - carving the stock, cutdown trigger frame and removed casting lines.) - it's on the backburner

4. Crosman 600 (Respray and reseal as required) - it's on the backburner

5. MK1 (respray again after the crappy job I did the first time round! Shoots like a peach, love it.)  - it's on the backburner

6. EB22 (lowering power)  - it's on the backburner

Streuth!  :o  I'm not buying or starting anymore till I half this list! And there I was thinking of getting a 2240 this weekend!  :D

Actually the first 2 are nearly there now.
The 600 and MK1 will be done at the same time as a box of paint arrived last weekend.
The EB22 is an weeknight tinkering, the end of a never ending project!
The 2250b is it's potential gun base but that may change, just focussing on the stock (which is a large piece of Ash).
The Ash wood is hard as nails. I need to purchase a couple of new tools to speed it up and to do it justice. It's 1/3 carved.

I need more time than available!  ???

Northstar,
Ash is what they make baseball bats out of.  LOL!
Walnut is prettier.
There, I hijacked another thread. :P  Couldn't help myself.

LOL, makes sense! It's like a rock!  ;D ;D ;D I need the exercise, this will be it!  :)
It was a free piece that was just the right size. At least I now know it's gonna be one tough stock!  :P

I'll explore walnut for the next one, there's always another to be made!  ;)

Right now I'm slowly working on a 1322 and a 2540.  Gathering parts and getting my game plan in order.

Also shooting, shooting, shooting.  Gone through about 1200 pellets this week shooting only three different guns.

Slowly doing my 1377

1077 is in parts, looking to be bulked

357 in parts, just looking for the seal kit (really just need to order it) and mount the 4" barrel!

The Transformer is getting a new 18" barrel

And someday, the PowerMaster 66 is gonna get the steel reciever put on with a wood stock and a flat top set-up.

Also, slowly but surely finishing off a couple of 2250 HPA valves, a new breech design and a new 22xx debounce design........

I know I am missing something, but now that I look at what I just wrote, I'm glad I forgot  ;D

I finished my Crosmods equipped 1322 today, my Mountain Air MA1 1322 will be finished next week. That leaves my 12" barreled 2240:

I just ordered a Tippman 98 adapter from Charlie Mellon, and a Tippman 98 stock from Ultimate Paintball for it. Maybe later this year, I'll work on upping the power a bit.

Still working on the same 1322 pistol I have been working on for well over 6 months... lol. I have been trying to get a darn custom shroud for it for Several months.. I traded a set of grips to a Well-known seller of ldc's and shrouds(as he proposed), and he didn't deliver the custom shroud, instead just packed me up a run of the mill ldc that he sells on his site.. So i said what the heck, and found someone else to make the shroud, traded him a set of completely custom'd grips for the shroud (as he wanted), and no word at all from him now.....??? So who knows.. Seems as if I am going to have to just take these projects slow. I dumped a ton of money into this 1322, and cant even shoot it. I stripped out the threaded hole in the airtube for the breech, lol. so It also needs some replacement parts. Anyone know a reputable place to get a custom shroud made that can follow directions, and wont take 6-8 months to deliver it? Ok, thats my rant for the month. once every 30 or so days aint bad..

That's some project list mate!
I've been selling lots of guns and gear on AirgunBBS to raise cash to actually complete a gun.
I was working at some figures and it's surprising just how much cash we spend on these guns!
I don't recommend anyone costs up a parts list ..........

Keep us posted with pics

Rich, I can't wait to see the prototypes for the breech and valves. The only thing you missing was to make an extra one for me!  ;)

I didn't realise I had so much going on until I typed that up!  :-[
It is a little shocking how much gets sunk into these guns. Partly why I try and do as much as I can where possible.

But, alas, I just can't stop....I admit I have a problem, the upside is I'm OK with it!  ;)

2240 came yesterday in mail, waiting for e-bay win's to start rebuilding my Crosman 140. Got rid of my g/f yesterday she will be replaced by 2240 mods.
Thanks for the great eye candy.

You made the right choice jogle.  Airguns are expensive but g/fs will bankrupt you.

I'm going to try to have only one active project at a time.  Currently that is a 1377 that is getting preped for backyard bird control.
current mods are:
Steel breech
trigger polish
lighter trigger spring and guide
hammer spring guide
simmons scope

to be done:
solid pin

It's going to stay a pistol for now but I'm considering turning it into a carbine and doing some power mods.  That may be an over the winter project, we'll see.  I've just about had it with the plastic grips and forearm so that may come before any power mods.

The plastic grips are loose on the 2240 the plastic sight has to go also. Working 7 days this and next week maybe will have time to search for nice grips at least. 8)

Recently re-configured the following;

Transformer now has a 24" .177 barrel and Aluminum Stock. Just looking at this picture, I saw a way to make this an adjustable stock. That will need to wait for now as it is for sale.

The 2240 is now a 174o with the 1377's 10" .177 barrel with moderator and Roy's grips along with a CB breech. For Sale as well.

My 1377 got the 14-1/2" .22 barrel and 1389 stock with a moderator drying from a fresh paint job as I type. Adorning the Crosman steel breech is Leapers 4x32 glass with a MellonAir flow thru Bolt. This one is a work in progress and I will add a brass Flat-top set-up soon. As of right now, I have decided to go camo with it. Tomorrow may change my mind again.

Just picked up 2 more MK 1's. :)  Both need to be re-sealed, stripped down, and re-painted. One is the original type with power adjustment screw and lever piercing cap, the other had some not-so-nice modifications (hacked off rear sight, hokey barrel extension). I'm thinking the second one will be an LD clone project this winter 8) (can't get a real LD shipped into Canada  >:(

Will take some pics tonight after work.

1389 backpacker
it was shooting pretty low so i flat topped it today using a modded 130 piston and the valve out of my LS13XX.it also needed a new loading gate, that was installed also,it still needs a .177 insert, will see how it does with the .20 insert.also added a washer behind the hammer spring.made a new pin for the quick release
still have to run it through the chrony.it sounds better than before.its a shooter not a collector,so mods a good thing

Thanks Mike. I wouldn't have gotten even this far without the great information/advice from all you fine folks here. Thank you all.

You can't wait? I feel like a 5 yr old on Christmas eve! Worst thing is, I haven't done anything to it except a trigger tune since I posted pics  :(. Been working 6, sometimes 7 days a week for the last month and a half. Starting to slow down a bit now though.

HA! If you can believe it, the wife just come through the door just now as I'm typing this, with my tank block to mount my HPA bottle! :-* :-* One step closer to them shot strings. WOOHOO!!!

As soon as I get it finished (whenever that'll be), I will post some numbers for you.

Project list update:

2240 added. It was going to be a 1377 but they didn't have it in stock. To be kept minimal.
I have a repro leather WWII M3 or M7 tank 1911 holster for it. Cross-draw, the only way to holster. Put 'em up!

Out the box, the 2240 shoots 7FPE with 14.3 GRN WASPs.

It would seem that all the pistols I buy are over the UK limit, even as stock. And they are purchased within the UK.

I sense the grey cloud of rubber laws blowing in?
I abide as best I can but how many average people buy guns and chrony them - none, and they're all over the UK limit.
That's every single purchase of a 2240 within the UK! Still compared to my EB22 its a weakling.  8)

If I cut the barrel to the length of the gas tube do you think it would lower the power much? 6 FPE is the target but I may let it sit as is?
I guess it would be easier to add a power adjuster and wind it out to slacken off the spring. Seems springs do the controlling to a degree.

Jogle,
I shrink mine using Microsoft Paint because it is what I have on my computer.  When you have a picture open in Paint, go up to the menu, you click on Image, and choose Stretch/Skew and type in what percent of the original you want to see and click OK.  Be sure to keep the original aspect ratio by choosing the same percent for both horizontal and vertical.  My little Canon takes large pics so I usually reduce to 50% or less to post here.
Cheers,
Jerry

I think he is pretty busy.  I don't remember him notifying me of shipping.  He is one of the quicker suppliers though.
Cheers,
Jerry

Switching to bulk fill tomorrow, bought these parts from Gmac, arrived today:

Is one of those for a 1077? I have very interested in how they worked, so if you could give feedback after you have messed with them for a bit, it would be most apreciated.

Well, about 6 months ago I started a custom high-powered 13xx project, and although it is almost finished, I have had little luck getting the last few custom made parts that I've now been waiting for what seems like an eternity... With the help of some very generous members Ive been able to get some of the parts made though, and for that I AM indeed thankful. I didn't want to start a second 13xx project until the first 13xx project was complete, but I'm growing impatient, so I've elected to go ahead and start the second one to keep me tied over until the parts arrive for number one...

I had lots of left-over parts and some parts that i had aside for this second 13xx that i had planned to build someday. among those parts was a RJ Riser breech! So this gun will feature a shrouded free-floated barrel. I've not yet made any real decisions on what exactly this gun will look like, but I had enough parts lying around to go ahead and build a somewhat stock and almost complete gun to start with. here is a photo. I will start a new thread when i start placing part orders and getting down to the nitty-gritty. This is just a teaser. I need a bolt, and a larger diameter shroud to fill the void between the barrel and the tube, a ft piston, and a few odds and ends. I'm really a big 13xx guy, in fact, I think that they are my favorite gun in existence. At least for now. I cant wait to have both of them complete! I get terribly excited thinking about it.

Until recently I was not that much into the 13XX guns even though I've had several for a long time.  But lately I find myself using them more and more and going back and researching all the articles and information I've bookmarked and saved on them.

Airguns100 was a big influence on me and I thank him loads for what he did (He's in school right now and has some higher priorities in life).

And while the 13XX might not be my most favorite, it is sure climbing up the ladder.  :)

Kingfshr,
Just you wait.  It will be a project.  First you will need to smooth the rough contact surfaces of the sear and hammer, then polish all of those surfaces and the sear contact surface of the trigger and lighten the trigger pull  adjustment all the way down.  A clean let-off will be like night and day from the original Crosman setup.
Tell us about it, and when you get it, send pictures.
Cheers,
Jerry

I too am a recent convert. I am amazed at the power a few pumps will give on a modded gun.
And the best things is; air is free! Although it cost me a fair few pennies to get there!  :)
