Curious on bench rest setups. Rolled Blanked, sand bags, mechanical rests etc.
I'm making a bench to shoot from and need some rest ideas.
Also, What are you using to fill rest bags? Lead shot, sand? Thanks in Advance
I use the shooters ridge bench and stoney Point Shooting Bag. It comes pre filled with I'm not sure what. Works great.
Thanks Grumpy....

Fully adjustable. Plastic. Made in the USA. Lightweight, but doesn't wander, thanks to the rubber feet. Works with rifles and pistols.
When I use it with springer rifles, I just put a beanbag on the front rest to let it move a bit.
I like how the front rest is height adjustable with the just the wing nut.
I also have one of the Predator rests. Its very nice and adjuststable. I like how lightweight it is.
Merry Christmas everyone....
I like that Predator.
i use the 30 dollar winchester sight vise from wally world or a bipod on this table

I just use a bag rest. :-*

MTM Shoulder Guard Rifle Rest - The Shoulder-Gard Rifle Rest (SGR) is MTM's first recoil reduction rest. With the growing popularity of magnum caliber rifles, heavy recoil can be a real pain. To address this issue, MTM has made a 4-point, flexible base, shooting rest designed to ease the shoulder punishment of sighting-in powerful magnum rifles.
I use a lead sled plus. I don't know what the front bag is filled with though. It can accept weights do dampen the recoil of my firearms. Also fully adjustable.
i have to prop something under the rear of it and use it backwards.. the rear has the adjustment peice for the height of the vise.. but using a pistol on it takes some creative thinking.. but it works

Here's my Mega bucks table, rest and gun rack
Hope you wont be jealous ;)
Blocks of packing foam + ziplock bag full of spent pellets, wrapped in old sweatshirt rag held with electrical tape
Table is 1" ply scrap screwed to old center post patio table support found at local recyclers $5.
Rack is two survey stakes, with piece screwed accross + piece of packing foam notched for barrel holders.
You can also see the stacked double stick tape pieces on the end of the table to cradle a gun if I need to set it aside for a minute.. Two notches, one for Sheridans small barrel, and one for normal sized barrels.

I melt down my pellets and sell them for $3.50 a pound. you can make bullets and sailboat ballasts with them.
Caldwell ZeroMax. I made the rear leg adjustable to speed up elevation changes. Cheap, works ok.

I initially got Ezman and Bart the Fart's panties in a bunch. ??? ???
And they didn't like the caliber of my posts in the Current Events.
They have now closed the CE Forum, go figure.
They should have just not had a CE, and all would still be fine with my membership.
I miss not being able to post and reply to my friends there. Maybe they will forgive me someday 8)
I use the smaller version of the MTM Predator.
It doesn't have the same funky name; "MTM Front Rifle Rest & Handgun Rest" but it works for me!
It was a Christmas pressie from the wife to me. :)

Works really well and I've not used a rest before now! Looks hilarious with a PPK resting on it!
I think it's the cheapest in the range of these red plastic rests. I was gonna make one but for the price it was a steal. :-*
For anyone looking for a take down bench, I found this one. Not to bad a price for what it is. Two versions and even the top model is not out of reach.

I love reviving old posts. :P Here is my bench rest. 2 folding horses, 3/4" ply, clunk of 4x6, empty shot bag full of rags some 2x4s and some towels. Hay, it works for me. ;)
OK, I'll bite. I was shooting my 2260 just now and came in to dinner. While I was eating, I saw this thread re-opened, so went back outside, finished my groups and here is the set-up.
Old table with MTM Rifle Rest and some rags for my elbows ;D
My little set up at the shootin cabin (still a work in progress). In short, three sand bags on a custom-made wood "shelf" in an enclosed structure with large open window, heater, AC and refrigerator. I moved most of my toys and tools in there and despite only being able to visit about 14 days per year, there is NO place I would rather be, especially right now :-*
Sorry the photos are of such poor quality as I didn't expect to share at the time of taking them. Hopefully more to come soon (possibly late July).

Took a piece of 1" x 6" pine supported underneath by a block of maple. Put a piece of 1/2" thick rubber matting on the pine and covered it with a carpet sample held by an old cymbal stand. Easy to make and very portable, and adjustable. RC

What I forgot to share was a picture of the uninvited guest lingering in my shootin cabin :o
You know what works real good on that? Brake cleaner, just spray and boop. It will fall to the ground, dead, try it, it works. ;)

I just noticed something: Aren't those drum kit thrones you be sittin' on?
Depending on what I'm shooting I use a Hoppe's Expert's Benchrest 3000 (orange colored) or a Hyskore #30034 Swivel Pistol Rest plus a couple of sand filled bags.

Wow.... nothing too serious then 'rws_53'. :-* 8)
Awesome RWS! :-*
Wish I had a 10M indoor range too!
I have been thinking about cutting a 2' square opening in the side of the workshop and extending a square tube out to 10M with a retractable target pulley system, but first I need to just get the shop up and running!! Future plans added to the growing pile of future plans ;)

Very interesting. Who knew ???
I have a set of Shooters Ridge bags (Front and Rear) and a Caldwell Lead Sled. My current bench, due to be modified soon, is an old 55 gallon fish tank stand made from bolted and mitered 2X4's with two pieces of 5/8" ply screwed down on top. The bench is rock solid, and between two of the 6X6 posts that hold up my second story deck, just need to add another top with the narrow piece extending back to allow the rifle rest, and my arm to have a place to rest on. So far however the setup has worked out quite well, and since the bags and the lead sled were both gifts I can't complain. Also being able to shot ragged holes at 47 yards with the M-Rod, and Talon from it verifies that all sits nice and tight. Inside I do have a 5M range in my shop, and a 10M range in the house on the lower floor. I don't move the current bench, but do have some support for the bags on the indoor ranges. Nice setups guys, I'll need to get some pics for you.
