Title: Striped a hole in a P-Rod Tube - How can I fix it?
Post by: 0351_Vet on September 06, 2012, 07:30:45 PM
I accidentally screwed the wrong screw in to the bottom of a P-Rod tube and striped it out. (Too much on my mind at the time). How would I fix it?

It's the screw hole for the stud/lug (Disco) to mount the stock screw too.

Part 22  / 2260-12 / Lug, Stock

Disco EVP

Do they make and coil insert? Thanks

+1 to that... drill oversize, tap and insert the helicoil.

Thanks Mike, that's what I was thinking too.
Hope I don't have to weld it up, re-drill and tap it.
Might be easier just to order a new tube.  :-*

Now I just have to figure out what the original size thread (Tap) it was.  ???  :)

Walt, if you don't have a thread gage, just go to the hardware store and marry it up with a labeled size nut, my guess is 8-32 thread?

Here's a link to McMaster carr for helicoils and info  http://www.mcmaster.com/#helicoils/=j6dnxg (http://www.mcmaster.com/#helicoils/=j6dnxg)

@Brian, Thanks.

I do have a thread gauge, but I have never used Helicoils. I don't have any install tools for Helicoils either.
I hope I can buy one and the tool for that particular Helicoil....?  ???

I'm a tinkerer, not a machinist. Any additional install info is appreciated  :-*
