Just got this last week.Gonna give it a shot,my first part will be a brass safety lol. Then a valve. did a bolt handle today.
Mike
very nice, been looking for a used one for some time now.
cool Mike! Take your time and keep your fingers away from the chuck and you'll be golden!
Trust me, take the chuck key out before you turn it on! :-[
Thanks for the heads up,this models key has a spring at the end as a safety,it wont stay in the chuck. But the one at my old job did not.And no long sleeve's. :-*
Mike
congrats
start cranking out those parts :-*
That's definitely the way to go!
You know you have a problem when you find yourself using the lathe to make tooling to allow you to make a part :)
Regards,
nick
LOL :-*
Oh Lordy, the world will never be safe again. Mad Man Mike is on the loose, armed and dangerous with a lathe.
Carl
a hobby lathe and a drill press makes everything so much easier when you want to play around modding stuff.. i use a hand drill clamped in a bench vise, then use a moto tool if i want to spin stuff sometimes ;D
good job on the tools corvettemike :P :-* 8)
I like that Carl, Mad Man Mike ;D lmao I wanted to do this for a long time and now have the time,so wish me luck.Still waiting for bits and a Quick change tool post holder, they shipped in 2 boxes.
Mike
Bolt that puppy down to the table top. It'll help, trust me on this one :-*
Rich
I dont know if im gonna keep it there i wanna put another bench in, to the right need to move lots of stuff.gotta watch the back.
Mike
Nice set up and theres much more satisfaction in making your own stuff.
Wow, very cool indeed.
I wish i had the room for some decent lathe and milling tools, you can never have too much tools ;D
NICE !! I am happy for you!!! Wish I'd learned to operate stuff like that before I got this old....

Dude, you can still learn! I did and so far I still have all my fingers and other important pieces parts. Go for it. No excuse. You have plenty of time to perfect your skill set.
Carl
I agree with Carl. Im 57 and only used a lathe at work a short times, they only had it a year or so before i retired. But it was a fun tool. :-*

You don't have to be young to learn, just interested ;)
Try it!
ATB,
Nick
Cool, me like yes! :-*
So whats on the agenda? What you gonna make (me)? ;)
Thanks everyone,i was playing today trying different bits and stuff.I guess you figured out the rest of the order came.I just need to get all the controls down.i had an old brass drift pin i was turnng and faceing.just trying stuff.
Mike
Well Mr. Mike looks like you've got yourself a heck of a friend magnet. You probably thought you had a lot of friends before, but I would guess you have a brand-new hundred or more new ones. Keep us updated on all the neat parts you'll be making.
Lee
Wowowow :D Can't wait to see your first creation with that sweet thing
How do you work this thing ? ;D ;D
how much was that thing? i went to home depot a couple months ago and asked if they had any a mini lathe and the girl didnt even know what a lathe was! they didnt carry them BTW. they had a mini drill press and other "mini" bench top tools but no lathe....
Give it its own good, sturdy bench, bolted down securely as suggested. You won't regret doing so. :-* (From someone with literally no mechanical know-how, but knows those with it - Dad's automotive store used to have a Machine Shop when he was in business. ;) )

Habor Freight has them for 20% off it was 300.00 with the discount.I had to get the loot from the wife, i have to pay her back this time ;D
Mike
First part in the works, no laughing !! ;D
try making a shroud mike. its easier. a bolt or something like that. the safety looks good so far. ;D :-X
edit. make sure you wear safety stuff. you only get one trigger finger. 8)
Looking Good!
You'll be surprised how many kind people will find things they've broken for you to fix when the find out you have that on your bench ;)
Regards,
Nick
Yep already found that out Nick. Im makeing the safety for a friend then one for me.Shroud next airguns100 said there easy so ill give it a shot.Pretty much just need to drill a hole then shape it.tap for a screw maybe drill some holes in the side.Cut some lines in the side well see.
Mike
Done Not much but its a start !
Looking nice mike!
so... now you gonna make everyone a brass safety? or.. can you make me a stainless extra long one ;)
I will give it a try, i need to pick if some rods no SS as of now i will look for a bolt or something.
Mike
I can't wait for you to start experimenting on Brass/SS Barrel Bands for 13xx :P
I'll take a SS trigger frame assembly, SS tube, 3 SS trigger shoes, couple SS flame surpressors, and a SS Power adjuster with a pellet holder and 6 SS extended flow thru probes with a great big SS coching handle. No rush, can I get them by Saturday? ;D
what Mr. 007 wants, ditto Lee
Hold on let me write this down ;D ;D

i'm shipping some SS out to Don cothran tomorrow, to CNC machine some frames.
i think he's also thinking about making some SS barrel bands for pump guns. ;)
Don also has SS tubes, SS power adjuster, SS bolts. In fact you should just check out his website. Thats all he does is SS parts.
he can machine brass stuff, but he main is SS

I have a order with Don now he called me last week said about a week and half my goods will be ready.I installed the safety i made and it works fine i made 3 today.

i ordered from him not long ago he does great work. put me on the list for SS frame as well :)
Great job Mike!
Thanks to all. the 2nd and 3rd went so much faster.Im learing.
Mike
That is a solidly constructed lathe that can create an endless variety of small airgun parts. Your pistol safety pin project turned out really well. FYI - If you intend to cut much aluminum or brass you might consider purchasing a benchtop bandsaw and then install a bi-metal blade on it. It will cut non-ferrous metals with ease & precision. AE
Thanks alot for the tip ! i do have a small bandsaw and was wondering what blade to use, now i know. im happy you like the safety, your opinoin means alot.its just a hobbie and i get much pleasure turning my own parts.you never know maybe i can make some extra cash.
Mike
Found a old brass valve,so i tryed my first valve mod.And my 2nd safety this one has a better finish then the 1st one.
Mike
more pics OK no more pics.
we always want more pics! :)
nice work mike! i don't mind saying I'm a bit envious of you and your machine and your gun collection!
Thank you my friend.Thats what happens when you cant work any more due to back, but not a bad thing in a way.
Mike
Great job Mike!
Thanks Tom ! next safety for my 2260.i will work my way up to bigger projects. Valve before shot.
Mike
looking good mike, when you goint to start makeing FT pistons.
I need to order one so i can copy it.I dont wanna pull mine from my 1377,plus i need another one for my other 1377.
Mike

Mike
Try McMaster-Carr, Grainger, and MSC just to name a few.
your spelling doesn't have to suck, Google has a free download that will fix that with just a few clicks :-*
Here are some affordable 1/4" lathe bits which are good for small work. Cost depends on material - HSS - Carbide - & where the tooling was made. Be sure to get some center drills a live center too. Harbor Freight, Grizzly, Little Machine Shop, Amazon, Ebay, etc. are good sources for affordable tooling & accessories.

Mike
I use to pick up a lot of tooling off EBAY
Thanks Zuke i have found some stuff on ebay.
Mike
Keep an eye on it, especially the newest listing's with a buy-it-now feature.
You might pay a bit more but at least you'll know you have it.
The small indexable carbide insert's and holder's were my favorite's.
I made this bolt handle today for my custom 2300KT, pics before polish and after.
Mike
Nice Mike :-*
Nice job there Mike.
Here is one of my most favorite places to buy lathe or mill tools and such.

The possibilities are endless with your new machine.... :-*
You know its going to pay for itself at the rate your going!

Very nice piece, looks like something one can loose a lot of hours fiddling with. :-*
A bolt handle like that in steel, black anodized would be really cool, long before you will be taking orders? :-)
Thanks again to everyone for the kind words. I kinda have a small order already, makeing a brass safety for mr007 in trade for parts. as far as taken orders i wouldnt even know what to charge. But i guess i could get help with that.
