some of the old/older ones were brass or plated to look like brass

RC,
Have you tried sticking a magnet to one?  I did and the magnet didn't stick.  I think they are some aluminum alloy.
The older ones were brass.
Cheers,
Jerry

That's what I thought.

No, didn't try a magnet.  I used 1000 grit wet and dry to polish all the contact points, and they took a high polish much like steel would.  It's quite possible that it's an alloy of some sort.  Thanks for the clarification. RC

The trigger is way too easy to drill, so steel is likely not the material. If the trigger is made of the same material as the frame, then it is likely a zinc alloy.

If it's a zinc alloy, then be careful when machining the trigger. Zinc dust can cause serious health risks.
Though the amount of zinc in the triggers is probably too little to be concerned about.
