i would say crosman premier hollow points for general plinking/hunting 500ct/$6-$7
it all depends on what you are doing though
for hunting a lot of people use predator poly mags.very devastating on quarry.expensive $12-$16 200ct
for paper targets wadcutters/flatheads.varying prices

RWS hobbys are a pretty good deal and shoot very good.

I agree with 1377, Crosman premiere hollow points....good all around pellet and best bang for the buck.

Since I propel 1000+ rounds/month, I go the inexpensive route most of the time.

For practice and 'fun' plinking it's Gamo Pro Magnum - http://www.pyramydair.com/s/p/Gamo_Pro_Magnum_177_Cal_7_8_Grains_Pointed_750ct/560 (http://www.pyramydair.com/s/p/Gamo_Pro_Magnum_177_Cal_7_8_Grains_Pointed_750ct/560)

Most target work is with Gamo Match - http://www.pyramydair.com/s/p/Gamo_Match_177_Cal_7_56_Grains_Wadcutter_500ct/183 (http://www.pyramydair.com/s/p/Gamo_Match_177_Cal_7_56_Grains_Wadcutter_500ct/183)
other times it's Crosman Competition - http://www.pyramydair.com/s/p/Crosman_Competition_177_Cal_7_4_Grains_Wadcutter_250ct/112 (http://www.pyramydair.com/s/p/Crosman_Competition_177_Cal_7_4_Grains_Wadcutter_250ct/112)

Pest control and small game hunting is generally with Predator Polymag's -  http://www.pyramydair.com/s/p/Predator_Polymag_22_Cal_16_0_Grains_Pointed_200ct/343 (http://www.pyramydair.com/s/p/Predator_Polymag_22_Cal_16_0_Grains_Pointed_200ct/343)
although others like Destroyer's in .177 and CPHP in .22 as the Poly's ain't cheap  :D

The "4th tin free" at Pyramid is quite the incentive to keep lots of ammo on hand  :)
