Copper Coated Pellets

What are your thoughts on coated pellets.  I'm new to this hobby and just bought some H&N coated .177s. Yes, they cost a bit more but,  is there a health safety issue with lead pellets??  With these coated pellets there is no residue left on your fingers and hands after handling.  Also no large quantity of lead dust in my trap when cleaning it out.  They seem to shoot fine, and I'm just a paper shooter anyway.  Thanks for any input.

I shoot quite a few of them in my Marauder pistol and other guns and have no problems with them.

Personally, I think they are a gimmick but that's okay, they do work.

They are harder hitting than a standard lead pellet IMHO. Even though it's only a coating.
Only real use is hunting assuming major penetration is the game. But I have used them in .22 @5m and they worked fine.


Alas though, I bought them purely on a Magpie frame of mind - mmmmm....shiny! And they were evil looking!

I had various Beeman (H&N) plated pellets and they shot great.  Youngest son has the last couple of tins I had and no complaints from him.

As for health - wash up before you put your hands in or near your mouth... but as an adult, you're not going to get any ill effects from pellet handling anyway.  Lead dust does not penetrate skin.  Always a good idea to keep away from kids under age 6 and pregnant women.
