OK, You want match grade accuracy? Buy this $40 gun. This is the best deal I could find on a P17. There are a few guns that are better than this one, but they cost a lot more. Wyoman, here is the deal and it is shipped out of Carls back yard in TN. I just bought another one.$39.59 shipped to your door. They list for more than that.
Where did you find that deal /

I went to yahoo search and put in Beeman P17, then I just looked and looked and went to one sight that had a good deal then it sent me to Amazon and on there is said there were more deals. looked and there it was $32.51 + $7.08 shipping. I added that up and went HUH? ??? This is less than anyone else. Sat on it all day and went WHAT THE DUCK? I bought one. This is the long killer deal for a gun that will shoot with the big boys. When you buy one let me know and I will show the link to what you have to do to it so it will last and last. I have almost 500 shots through mine and no problems.
Beeman P17 1 item will be shipped to James sr by Z'Shopping Network. Estimated delivery: June 10, 2013 - June 13, 2013 Thanks Ducky
Jim
500 shots Ducky :o

Probably going on 13 or 1400 on this one. Love this gun :-\ :-*
Sweet adjustable trigger, nice fit in the hand, light, and a full length barrel rail... can't beat that. Am putting stuff on and off it all the time. ;)

You are welcome, you won't regret it. Now, watch this vid and listen to what he is saying about this gun. Basically what you have to do is, pull out the piston and clean it. Then use some fine sandpaper or scotch bright to smooth out the inside of the pump tube. Relube with some white lith greese, pellgun oil the small o-ring and shoot it. I have a 3/16" wood dowel kind of sharpened on one end kinda rounded off I use to push the pellet into the chamber of the barrel so it won't damage the o-ring when you close it up.

Well with all the other stuff I just don't shoot it as much as I would like. And I just shoot in my garage. If I had the great outdoors like some people do, I would shoot it more. I know it would take small pest and birds no problem. I put it on the chrony and got constant 400fps out of it. It says on the package 410fps and it will do that.
OOPS!! I just noticed that I put this thread in the wrong place, I was going to put it in "General airguning" not in the for sale thread. OPPS!! :-[

Good thing you said something now Rich can relax when he moves it ;)
It's cool to see you so excited about this gun!! You know I am, Jerry is, Brian too... and quite a few other guys. Neat that you found a sweet deal... and let everyone know!! :-*
Heck... was tired and wasn't going to shoot tonight, but now you got me wanting to shoot the P17 ;) ;D
Going to go shoot it a little, then go to bed :) ;D
Here's mine with the Daisy red dot on it. Last week had the NcStar scope on it.
Looking good. Looks like you can still easily close it with the red dot on it. What pellets does it like?
I got a Marksman 2004 (same as a P17 just before it was branded as a Beeman) and a 1377 for $40 used :), I'm a big fan of the 2004/P17, I haven't touched it and it shoots great

Pretty much everything I have. I actually haven't found one yet, that it does not like.
I mainly shoot the Daisy 7.8g wad cutters through it, as I put allot of pellets through it in a sitting. Last night I probably shot about 75 or so, in a little less than an hour. Have tried RWS Hobby, Diabolo Basic, Meisterkugein 8.2g, Crosman Premier Super Match, and Destroyer EX.
That Daisy red dot is also a great value. $10... and it is actually pretty nice. Very light, no parallax (really), a pretty decent dot, 2 brightness settings, and easy to get on and off quick. It is about a 7 MOA dot I would say. It is my second... the first was actually messed up from the git, the dot was not centered. Took it right back (Tractor Supply), and got this one... and everything is fine. Put 1 wrap of teflon plumbers tape on the windage adjustment bolt, so it would stiffen up the tolerances a little there (just a very slight movement side to side, if you grabbed it and moved it... not so much shooting it). Easy to do... take the nut off, bolt out and wrap it, and put it back in.

I have been using some older Crosman FP pellets I bought off ebay. I'm cheep, I always look for a bargain, like .01 cent per pellet. If you have any ebay bucks to use, you can get them cheeper. Here they is.

Yah... I'm cheap too ;) The Daisy's are a little less than a penny also. ($3.50 per 500 @ Tractor Supply)
Does your gun like those Cooperheads OK?
Yes, it does ok with them. Of course, they are not super duper match grade pellets, but for shooting, they work fine. I use them in my Daisy 880 and the 1377 also.
$39.95 at PA - 10% $35.95
The P17 is prob the best bargain in airguns, all it needs is a little cleaning and o-ring lube and it's 90% as good as the $270 P3 it copies :-*
I had a P17 and shot LOTS of pellets through it and gave it to a friend in exchange of some work. Man, I wish I never gave it away because by the time he received the gem, it had already been well broken in and dead accurate. For the price, you can't go wrong with this pellet pistol :-*

As with all things on Amazon, you have to jump on deals when you see them. The P17 for $32.51 + $7.08 shipping is gone. The $32.51 is still there, but the raised the shipping to $13.18. O-WELL. You have to jump on the deals when you see them. But, $46 for a gun that is this great, is still a great buy. Better than a Crosman C-11.
Had actually had this bookmarked for when I wanted the next one, or one as a present.
$37.80 shipped ground.

If you want the package with the red dot included, add $5.00. That's what I got when I got this one.
It is OK. Pretty much the same inexpensive red dot scope as Crosman sells. The Daisy is better though, in my opinion.
$13.14 for shipping? That's over 50% of the purchase price? ???
Clever advertising at $24.66 sales price, oughta bring in the same folks who pay $28 in shipping for those "great" Cheaper Than Dirt store bargain co2 cartridges! :D

The Amazon deal is a good deal, unless you live in Ca. Amazon charges me sales tax on top of that price, so it would be $42.99 here in Ca.
Question for the class: I got my wife one of these, it's her only airgun but she loves it. She uses the open sights. The problem is I/we haven't been able to shoot much at all lately (long story).
We have less than 100 pellets through it and it works fine stock. I already bought a metric o-ring set from HF.
Should I swap o-rings, lube...etc. or just shoot it as is until there's issues?
Jerry, I would just shoot it as is, if it was me. I didn't notice any great difference in mine, when I changed the orings in it. Probably had around 1000 or slightly more shots through it at that point.
The only reason I did it, was I was actually curious if I would maybe see an improvement in doing so. Figured as much as I had shot it at that point... it could use a freshen up - but honestly it shot about the same as far as I could tell.
The orings I used were decent quality, I know there are some better ones out there... but in knowing how this thing works, and the capacity of the components, I don't thing better ones would have made a difference that I could notice without a crony. If anything, maybe a tad more fps with better ones ???
Have read a ton on the P17 on the Net, and no one seems to get them much past the low 400s in fps... without doing some machining and serious mods... oring replacement or not.
With 100 rounds... you guys have a while yet I would think.
The one thing I am pretty confident about though... is that using a grease like lithium for the piston... could come back to haunt you. After about the first 250 rounds, mine was shooting noticeably slower, and it ended up the grease had gotten past the oring some, and down into the bottom of the tube, and then into the little hole that puts the air into the valve. Basically, grease had gotten into my valve. Took the piston out, cleaned out all the grease in the tube (and there was grease in the bottom)... and took the valve out and cleaned it too (couldn't find much in there).
Substituted pelligun oil as the lubricant for the piston/ oring, and all has been good. It is not a big deal if a tiny bit of the pelligunoil gets into the valve, and it actually does just a very very little once in awhile. Helps keep everything lubed... that's a good thing.
Granted the grease that got into the valve was the cheap Chinese grease, I don't see the lithium being much better for not clogging the valve up eventually. To thick, need a thinner lubricant.
DON'T put pelligunoil in the tube (or bottom) as you are reassembling it, as that gets/ pushes some into the valve then and restricts the air getting in enough, and you can't close the first pump/cocking stroke after you have just put it back together... and then you start over. Don't ask me how I know ;) ;D
Put a Little on the piston/ oring itself (just a film is enough), and reassemble it. Once it is back together, about 2 or 3 more drops on the piston... move it in and out to spread it out... and you are set to go.
I put about 3 or 4 more drops on the piston, when I can't see it anymore... about every 200 to 250 shots or so. The piston and oring look no worse for wear, and I am up to 13 or 1400 shots now. The old oring that came out after about 1000 shots looked fine also... I could reuse it (all of them actually, except for the little breech/ barrel oring) again.
Hope that helps! :)

The valve o-ring is a size 006 and the piston is a 116

This a great blog here with a whole bunch of different airgun info.
The P17 is an awesome gun, especially when you take into account how much it costs.
It has the best trigger, on a less than 50 buck gun, that I have ever fired.
Plus it is real fun to shoot.
Once I got the procedure of loading pellets in it down pat it became a joy.
It is a tad hard to pump but that don't bother me.

They already have one; 10 m open pistol. I was trying to pratice on that last night, but was too shaky. Some days are better than others. What might be nice, if they had a 5m open pistol shoot for us old eyes and shaky hands.LOL ???

(well.... not really... but I feel better having said that now ;))
I am sure Duck is also hanging his head low... in shame.........
;) ;) ;D ;D
Congrats on your new gun!! :-*
you are going to love it!! :-*
There is an easy first mod to these.
Where the muzzle of the barrel, meets the exhaust of the valve - there is a small oring.
If you shim behind the oring, it makes the oring seal tighter against the barrel - so there is less chance of air escaping under pressure entering into the barrel. A more positive seal there is all. Not that you really need to do this, as it seats pretty good as it is... but it makes me feel better having done it LOL ;)
I do seem to hear more of a bark out of the gun now though... in having done it. Hard to say without a chrony (there... covered that LOL)
I used that dental floss, that is like tape rather than the string. You could probably use a short peice of teflon tape, rolled up length wise also. Just something to fill in the space behind the oring a little, so the oring sticks out a little more towards the barrel and seals tighter.
Any other ideas, on what can be used there? ???
Brent - The other thing you can do is move the barrel closer to the o-ring. This is just a smidge of a move, but I did it and worked out good. Before loosening the barrel, mark it on a clamp point so you know where the original position is. I also deburred and polished the OD of the lead in side of the barrel so it would slide smoothly when contacting the o-ring upon closing.
I probably have 1000 rounds through my P-17 ... 950 after I moved the barrel. As you may recall, I had several leaks when first purchased .... it still remains tightly sealed. This gun is da bomb and a blast to shoot.
QUACK,QUACK,QUACK!!! The P17 club is forming! :D On the topic of the o-ring, I use a small wood dowel to seat the pellet so the pellet does not scrape the o-ring when closing the gun. I just took a brake from shooting mine. Buy one, you will love it!

How you been? Missed you around here ;)
Has anyone used a pellet pen to load one? I've never had one so I don't know if it would fit behind the locking bar (or whatever it's called).
I'm not sure what the locking bar that you refer to is but I have used a pellet pen and it works OK. I don't usually use one because I can manage pretty well with my fingers and I like to use the K.I.S.S. principle. That is, the pen is one more thing to keep track of/loose. I think pellet pens work best for break barrels. Dave (dptrucker32chip) showed me some he made out of Bic pen barrels and vacuum caps that work fine but there is no catch or restriction to let only one pellet go at a time. Index fingers work very well instead. He had a variety of them in his shooting gear with different color vacuum caps for different types of pellets.
Cheers,
Was doing some internet research on the P17 and found this. A multi pump P17, made with hand tools and drill press, using a piece cut off the P17 piston. :o
http://www.network54.com/Forum/275684/message/1305739356/Beeman+P-17+multi-stroke+PICS- (http://www.network54.com/Forum/275684/message/1305739356/Beeman+P-17+multi-stroke+PICS-)
Nice if you are ready for the pump exertion and material failures that will come with use :D
P17 IMO was meant to be a one pump, 10 meter shooter, enjoy it that way and keep it for more than a few months without breaking :-*

Cheers,
I mean the small rod that goes straight across from where you load a pellet. I think it's what catches to keep the breech latched closed. ???

We are not excited about the gun "for no reason"... we are excited about it " for a reason" ;)
Got a ship notice from BigSupplyShop, Priority Mail, mine should be here in 2-3 days.
Is that the same as a Packaging Notice from them? I got that yesterday.
I got that in the morning and this later. "This email confirms that your order was Shipped"
Now, while you are waiting for your new gun to get here, go to the store and get one of these white out pens. This thing is great for putting white dots on the sights. And, if you don't like it later, just take your finger nail and an old tooth brush and it will come right off. Here is the wood dowel I use to seat the pellet with.
Both good ideas, will pick up one of those white out pens, it will come in handy for a couple other guns too.
Well my P17 got here and wow what a nice looker the fiber optic sights was not expected now time to shot it and set the sights :-* :-*

Make sure you go back in the thread and watch the vid. Take a 2mm allen wrench and back out the allen that is holding the pin for the piston, remove the piston, wipe off the China lube, check the intake hole for burrs, relube , like the instructions say, with white lithum greese, just a little, and then you are good to go. Enjoy!

Simply brilliant, 'Duck. Better than nail polish, I reckon.

Here's mine with Millet Red dot. With red dot, scope, or open sights very easy to use.
Nice looking piece. Shoots well? Show some pics of your targets.
Distance is about 7 yrds.
Look at that! That is some great shooting. What are you using for pellets? One hand or two? Wait untill you get the barrel broke in. Nice. 8)
Well this is what i found for my P17 the lead is done right when i put in a new pellet it goes in far enough that it will not touch the o-ring when i close the gun it`s a very good shooting gun i`ve tried different pellets and the destroyer ex seems to be the only ones it doesn`t like with my old eyes i ordered a red dot from PA i really like this gun and can`t wait until it`s broke in and find the top pellet for it if there is only one i doubt it lol nice to have a good shooter after the NP pistol if you want a cheap paper puncher this is the one to get :-* :-* :-*
Jim
Glad to see so many happy-campers with this P17, it's a great pistol :-*
Do any of you guys have a hard time closing the pistol with a red dot on top? It always seemed to be in the way so we're using open sights.
I have cleaned my P17, and fired about 50 shots using CPHP's. My best 10 shot group at 5 meters was about 1" for 8 shots with two fliers, one left, one right, that opened it up to 2". Still getting used to it and I have other pellets to try out. It has sharp edges on the top rail and rear sight that I will attend to, a glove or some other hand protection when closing it is needed. The fiber optic sights are great. All in all I am happy with it so far, and hope to find a pellet that will give even better accuracy.
Yes it is difficult. I don't push on the optics or the mount. I try to straddle with thumb and forefinger, not easy at all.
Maybe I'm just a wimp, or my P17 is making more compression than others. (Probably not) I couldn't imagine trying to close this thing with a scope or red dot on top, and not using it for leverage. I have less trouble putting the 8th pump in a 1377 or Sheridan blue streak than one in this pistol. I've fired it over a hundred times, and it's not any easier than the first.
I have found that out of the 6 different .177 pellets I have, it likes Crosman Destroyers and Meisterkuglens best, both giving some 1" 5 shot groups at 5 meters.
Got mine today. Checked the port for burrs and greased the piston. Yeah, it's a bit of work to pump, but the trigger is cool. I've had this cheap BSA laser for a while so I put it on the dovetail. Too bad there isn't a rail on the frame, but I'm not gonna get picky. Waiting to shoot it some more before I glue the switch in place.

The P17 is not that bad guys if you want a bear to cock try the Hatsan supercharger 25 the P17 is 28 lb the Hatsan is 58lbs and the cocking assit is only 2.5' long yes it`s a pistol but it is my goto pistol for tree rats or any other small game at a .22 and 600 fps one hell of a shooter

I guess I need this gun to go along with the P17. :P :P ;D ;D
Don't worry Dave... no one is going to ask why you had that photo... MUCH! :D ;D
I received my new one. Wow, they have made some improvements on this thing. The first thing you notice is fiber optic sights, nice. The chamber on the barrel is recessed more for easy pellet loading. Other that that so far looks about the same. I'll clean it up today and sight it in today. The P17 club is growing. 8)

Noah, you need a 2mm allen wrench, the right size pin punch, small hammer, 2 paper towels, some 400gt sandpaper and a touch of white lithum greese. I cleaned my new one today. Look at my next post.
Well, I cleaned and lubed my new one today. Here is why you need to pull the piston out and clean the piston and the piston tube body. I just used a paper towel to clean with, then the white lithum greese. I also checked for the burr with some 400gt wet and dry sandpaper and found no burr. I think that "they" got that problem solved. Haven't had a chance to sight it in yet, that's next on my list. ;)
I sure like the new sights they are using now. :)

There's no way I could do it.
I took the laser off today. The stock sights are too nice. Gamo Magnums are shooting the best groups with my gun at 20 yrds. Tried CPHP's and JSB Exacts, but they're both shooting left of the bulls eye.

OK,P17 club members, I finally got around to sighting in my new P17 and yes, it works just as good as my old one. The first target is with H&N match pellets I had from back in the 80's. The second target is with GAMO tomahawk pellets. This is 5m on the bench rest. I take a dime and a sharpie and draw around the dime. I have only shot 50 shots through the gun so far. I think it will get better with more shots. Not bad for a $40 gun. 8)
Nice shooting i`m getting a little bigger circle but then i`m shooting 10 m you wasn`t joking when you said this was a good shooter thanks for the heads up :-*
Jim
That will be my next challenge to do the 10m shoot with this thing. Same thing, circle a dime and put it on the bench. I might have to raise the sight up a bit, but we will see. I just wish that I had some better pellets. I can't make up my mind which ones to buy.
I got two sample kits i`m just about ready to try them really got the kits for my Phantom 1000 heck got that for Xmas and never fired it yet not really into rifles but any way i have about 18 different pellets i`ll let you know once i find what mine likes i do know it doesn`t like the crosman destroyers ex

It's an old pic, but this is some 10m groups I shot with various pellets when I first bought the P17. Targets are the same as yours - traced a dime:

Thanks, WyoMan! I really like the H&N FTT both in .177 (4.52) and .22 (5.53), they seem to shoot really well in most of my guns. In fact they are easily the pellet of choice in my Benji Trail NP (Hardwoods edition), my 1750 PCP (ragged one-hole all day long @10m) as well as my MK I HPA Field Target pistol (out to 25 yards)... :-*
I should point out that if you are going to try them get the Field Target
Trophy, NOT the regular Field Target variety (although you can if you want to...) I have had pretty dismal success with the regular FT... :(
Very nice to know, thank you Sir :-*
Coincidence, I just ought one of these on another forum. Click for new posts here and a Beeman thread :-*

Maybe it's just me, but every pistol should have a nice grip like these. It hugs the hand.
My used P17 arrived today.
Couldn't resist, the wife went out to collect no3 daughter from work so I ran to my office to have a quick test fire.
Slight clunk/twang noise a bit like a spring when top strap is first lifted (from within grip?).
Just a little suck of air noise as it fully opens, quite hard to close (as I was sitting on floor I sort of closed with legs as much as hands).
First shot I thought I'd missed as couldn't see it. Turned out to be slap bang in the black pen dot I had put on the paper :-*
I then took a total of 6 shots at the dot....single hole no bigger than 1/2"
Ok it was only 5 meters and I rested on my knees but I was impressed. Didn't even have to touch the sights it was bang on.
It wasn't loud at all, just a gentle crack so I'm going to try in the garden next week next time the cats away... :-\

Sounds like you like yours Bazmati :-*
Ok, you guys convinced me! I'm putting the P17 on my shopping list......... If we get enough people with them,, someone can suggest a monthly "P17 only" target comp??
I'd buy another one if I had a huge back yard.
OK, P17 club members, I received some new pellets today to try in the new P17. I found out that the new gun is a little more pellet picky than my old gun. Here are the pellets and I'll put close ups of the target on the next post. The Excite pellets fit a bit tight, but the match pellets went right in, no problem. I bought the match pellets in 4.50 size. Not bad for a $35 gun. 8)
This is at 5m on the bench and 86 degrees temp. The black is 1 1/2" wide. Still, not bad for a $35 gun. :-\ If you do not have one of these guns, your are missing out on alot of fun.
Nice shootin' Duck! 8)
For a cheap pellet, I continue to be impressed with the Excite Econ's. Half the price of most other pellets (1/3 the price of Finale Match) and yet they are pretty good acurracy-wise in most of my guns...yours seems to like them too! :-*
Maybe you already posted this earlier and I just missed it, but have you tried the RWS Meisterkugeln 8.2 gr yet? My P17 loves 'em!
Looks fun. I am so mad at myself for giving away my P17 that I had done such a great job breaking in with several hundred shots (most likely way more).
Never heard of those Excites, I'll have to try them sometime.

No, haven't tried the RWS yet. I'm cheeeeep, ??? I had a hard time buying pellets that cost as much or more than I used to pay for 22lr. I'm going to try the Excites some more in my other guns. $5.25 per tin, buy 4 get one free, $7.99 shipping, .01187 ea. pellet. The other pellets were like .03 and .035 ea. There is one thing I had to learn on my own about pellets, pellets DO make a difference. NOAH tried to tell me, "NO GAMAO". If you just shoot, buy anything, trying to hit the center, buy better pellets. And some guns are pellet picky.
Duck ya'll are bad ! I've pulled trigger on one be heb t kre bout the 10th . Amazon and free shippin . :-*
It's a great purchase and you guys in the USA have a great price!
On pellets I've only used Geko (as I buy in 5000 at a time for IPAS).
But I'm getting my new Walther LGV Saturday so will be buying some good pellets for it so will give them a try. :-*
BAZ: Which LGV model are you getting? The Walther website http://walther-lgv.com/variants/competition_ultra/ (http://walther-lgv.com/variants/competition_ultra/) shows these rifles to be a fine piece of work :-*
Me and my wife did a little target practice with her P17 last night. It started off shooting low until I realized I pushed the rear sight down while closing it and it got stuck down. It popped right back up though with a nudge and was still sighted petty close.
It's killing me not having anywhere outside to shoot. Paper targets at 13 yards or less gets old.

And we have another member of the P17 club! ;D I'm like a lot of members here, I do not have a place outside to shoot, so I shoot in my garage. I take and put my P17 on a towel muzzel down and the grip down on the towel, put the web of my hand right in front of the rear sight and close. Kinda spread your finger out and push down. Works for me. Does your new P17 have the fiber optic sights?.
If you are talking "pellets of choice", last I checked, my P3 (the "expensive father" of the P17) liked -
RWS Meisterkuglen Wadcutter 8.2 grain
RWS Basic Wadcutter 7.0 grain

YES!!!!
As far as closing it, you get used to it without a towel after a bit (I assume, I didn't use a towel). Just keep your palm somewhat open and your fingers out.
Here is what I was trying to say about the towel. Like he said, spread your fingers out and close. It works great.
Yep. Nice fiber optic sights.

After you put 200 to 300 shots through it, you get the hang of it. This is a great gun for $40. It's way better than buying a Crosman C11 for over $50 and not be able to hit a 10" circle at 5M. The Beeman P17 is a great value for the money. If you read the reviews, most are 4 or 5 years ago. And yes, they did have some problems, but if you look at the 2013 guns, no problems. They fixed the burr in the air intake hole, they put fiber optic sights on. The gun can shoot a 1/4" groupe at 5M. The trigger is of match grade smooth. What more do you want out of a $40 gun? ???
AND, it is super quiet!
Another for the keep the fingers spread when shutting. I've been careful and not had a pinch yet as so aware from others comments. Mine is quite hard to close so I have been either pushing down onto my thigh, or if sitting down between legs and squeezing together :-[
It really is surprisingly quiet. I managed to have a few shots in my office yesterday which I set up to do when Mrs was out, she came home with her mum and where talking downstairs and didn't hear a thing (after I got brave enough to shoot it) I was amazed as I've been shouted at before for bangs!
I did see a picture of one with a doofer on but not sure how they fixed it and based on use so far really not sure it's needed. It's as quiet as is, and no louder than my 2300T & S&W 686 with a doofer on :-*
Late to the party but it's sure fun now.
Yesterday the P17 arrived as did a 1377 I was waiting for. I had a gun in each hand and a goofy look on my face according to my wife.
Just like you all have experienced I am impressed and pleased and surprised. No downside.
I didn't use the lithium grease after cleaning the barrel and wiping out the mystery lube and checking for burs on piston & tube. It just didn't seem right. I put a thin coat of MAC1 Secret Sauce on it and let it sit overnight. Same stuff I use for my other guns.
This morning I sighted in the open sights and broke off a piece of the green tube on the rear sights. That pissed me off at myself. I went on the chrony it and was again surprised. Crosman Premiers 7.9g 393 - 390 -391fps. Crosman Pointed 7.4g 417 - 423 - 422 fps. And just for the heck of it Crosman SSP 4.g 523 - 522 -531 fps. I think I'll use the Pointed pellets as they slip into the barrel with little or no pushing.
Anyway, do you think that the MAC1 lube is OK for this gun?

Ouch.. :-X
The P17 takes a little "maneuvering with the hand you use to close up the action.
Start with a grip to apply pressure and end the closing with an open palm, fingers straight out. I only pinched a finger once, and this method has become natural since then. It's motivation by pain avoidance! :-*
Hay there P17 club members, UPS just stoped by my house. Yep, 2 more. Buy 2 and they get cheaper, $32.52 ea. Just can't pass up a good deal. I have started my Christmas shopping.LOL ;D

Oh ya Duck... you are on a roll :-*
Mine arrived today. Put about 50 pellets through it so far. Not grouping yet so I'm going to run a patch or two down the barrel. Tried about 25 each of Crosman wad cutter and destroyers. Little bit hard to load, so thinking domed pellets might be better. Duck - what are you using?

My new one, I have 2 now, it seems to like the H&N Excites. But I use a small dowel to seat the pellet. You could also take pencil and sharpen then cut the end off a bit. My old one it likes the old Crosman FP pellets I bought off ebay.
Thanks Duck - will give the pencil trick a try. Fun little pistol. Good work out cocking it, too!
RWS R10 Match fit beautifully so do RWS Basic ($3.90 / 500 at Wallyworld on line) both shoot one hole at 10 meters :-*
I'll look for some of those. Meanwhile I'm ordering these four domed pellets from PA. Buy 3 get 1 free.
Beeman Field Target Special, 8.64 grains
RWS Superdome, 8.3 grains
JSB Match Diabolo, 8.3 grains
H&N Field Target, 8.49 grains
After cleaning a lot of black grease out of the barrel here's a pretty nice 5 shot string. This is 5 meters, off hand. The 6 ring is 1.5" diameter.

They say it's 28lbs. I would think that if it got easier, then there would be something wrong. It would not be sealing right. I have 270 shots throught my new one and it's still hard to close.
Quote from: KevinP on July 13, 2013, 02:51:25 PM

Mine hasn't and I have shot almost three tins through it so far (1500 rounds).
Like Duck said - being a SSP, if it does get easier then the o-ring is probably kaput and your velocity will be lower too...

Like those guys said, I doesn't get easier by "breaking in", but (for me at least) you just get more used to closing it after a while so it gets a little easier that way.
A bike or lifting glove on the left hand, the kind with padded palm but no fingers, makes closing it easier.

I think that a P17 is in my future. I've heard they are hard to load but super accurate. For the price, I'm in ;)
Fun gun.. Anyone else try to load the end of the piston rod while thinking about the last shot? I catch myself doing this at least once a session.
Too bad a pellet pen wouldn't fit in there. That would make loading so simple.

When I first got mine I too found it hard to load, especially with wadcutters. So what I did (right or wrong ???) was take the barrel out and sort of "crowned" the breech end with a tapered, fine grinding stone in the drill press, then polished it up. Nothing too major, just ever so slightly to break that sharp edge at the bore. Once done I reassembled and found loading to be much easier with no ill-effects to pellet seating or accuracy/velocity :-*

And, if you do not own one, here is place to buy that has a real good price. I bought 2 from them because I got them cheaper.
Good luck with the tear down and rembember, that big wire spring that pops out when you take off the right grip panel has to be back up in the grip panel when you go back together.

I'm guessing a Marksman 2004 is close enough (same thing, just older), if so, I printed some targets out today and will give it a shot next week :)
My box says 2004 but pistol P17 all the same :D
It really is my go to pistol. Had a few shots today (need to get the comp target printed next week)
Only 4 yards rested but even so, so accurate (even for me :-[) 10 shots and then 5 shots, all fit under a 20p piece (except 1 flyer but that was a dodgy pellet- honest*)

During my marathon P17 practice sessions, which so far have been a waste of pellets, I broke the front sight FI tube. I was going to order a replacement piece of tube but I have no idea of what size it is and I'm not really sure what to order.
Any ideas of what I should do besides buy another gun?
You broke what? The gun has a 1 year warranty on it. Is it less than 1 year since you purchased it? How about some pictures of the problem. Here is a parts break down on the P3. I can not find a parts list for the P17. And here is Beemans phone number. 1-800-227-2744.

By "FI" I think he means the fiber optic piece.

Do you have a way of measuring the diameter of the fiber optic piece you need? I would try to get a hold of bluefork, here on the forum and see if he can help. He uses the fiber optic line on some of the front sights he makes. Another I might try would be 1377x, Ed. He might know where you can get the fiber optic line. :)

Good deal Glad I could help :) :)
Check this place for fiber rod. I got some for my bluefork barrel band from them and they ship quick too.

I got the fiber optic tube from Speed Shooter and Mudducks measurements(front red .060) were right on and the tube fits great.
I also got the rear sight green tube since I had broken that the first day. It is .030 . Tubes were .50 - .60 per inch and I got them in a couple of days.
Looking good and shooting straight. :-*
Great !! glad I was able to help. I hate you missed the P17 shoot, maybe next time
I only missed the targets not the shoot. :-*

I quoted this older post from June, as it is still valid... I just joined the P17 club by purchasing off the linked site for $36.52. I'm thinking now I should have ordered two, but I'll wait and shoot it first.
Note: This is the "No Sight" version meaning no fiber optics... DOH!

That is confusing, but the "no sight " means no red dot sight. The new ones they are selling now all have the fiber optic sights on them. And, welcome to the P17 club.

That is good to know, as I googled the No Site variant and all of the images showed the original blade site... Thanks for the clarification.
Here are the sights on my new one.
I could be happy with those sights... I watched a boat load of videos about the P17 on youtube last night, and it would seem that most users were quite happy with the platform. Mine has shipped out, and I expect it on Friday... too bad I will be on a high school band trip this weekend. I won't get to play until Monday!

My daughter is in the band (9th grade) and I drive the tractor trailer that hauls the equipment to and from the shows... this weekend we are performing in Georgia (Bands of America). This is a long trip, so I will need Monday and the P17 to relax a little.

Fellow P17'er
Hi, today I had a bit of a plink with Geko as I usually do, but I then switched to hobby pellets as I've bought a load and dull clunk....no pellet comes out.
The only way it shots is if I force pellet into rifling >:(
My P17 is one of my most accurate air guns. Great 5 and 10 meter gun. I never did thank mudduck for putting me on to the Beeman P17. Thanks duck. I have had no troble out of it with any pellet I have shot in it.

You are entirely welcome. Now, if you could help our friend in the UK with his gun. He has one of the older guns and is having a problem with it. You, being the P17 master, I thought maybe you could help.
??? I don't know on that!! I read the problem he is haveing and have been thinking on it and the only thing I come up with is the pellet skirt! I really don'y know!! ???
Hi I think your right and it is skirt (seems to wide and base to go all the way in) I'll try to take a photo today.
Thanks guys :-*
Here we go. Geko on left, Hobby in middle and just breech on right. It seems that if skirt too wide it catches on outside of run and won't go further. Picture is pushed in with thumb as far as it will go. With tool takes a lot of force

Baz... how about putting a polish and leade (as in, lead into the rifling) on that receiver end of the barrel?
For all practical purposes, a lead-in taper (approx 5 degrees) and some removal of the rifling for the first .060 / .080" length is a non-problem as long as it is well polished. This will make your barrel pellet friendly to 90%+ of the brands/styles out there
^^^ +1 ...works for me and I end up with less pellets on the floor
Interesting, what would you use a Dremel or sandpaper?

Interesting, what would you use a Dremel or sandpaper?
I've done both but I would start slow...put some 600 grit over a round head screw or round bolt handle and turn by hand
see what that does...you can always get more aggressive but its hard to undue cuts that are too deep!
I've used cone shaped stones for Dremels and cone shaped felt polishing tips, wooden dowels with paste, wooden dowels with sandpaper
Need to be real careful with the alignment of the barrel and the tool if you are making an aggressive cut :-*
Wyo's right. You cant add back metal. Start slow , check progress multiple times. I had to fix the lead on the 12" lothar barrel that now is on my 1377. I bought it off the green and it really wasn't made for these pistols. The transfer port hole lined up but the leadhad to be popened up to accept the oring on the bolt. I took my time with many test fits and now it shoots great with very little pellet loading problems. Cheap wadcutters are the only pellets I have a problem with and thats minimal.
Thank you :-* easy does it shall be the manta
Have to admit, the P17 is the airgun communities best kept secret (relatively speaking of course)... The pistol feels like cold steel when it comes off of the old mail jeep and into my hands. No cleaning or anything, I have been feeding the pictol Crosman wadcutters and AA Falcon's (7.34gr). Very nice trigger, and extremely accurate... I'll need at least two more to play with.
So finally plucked up courage yo have a go at the breech end with Dremel (very lightly, with pellet poked in to collect debris) also by hand turned at crown as didn't seem crowned at all. Then hoped it would work :-[
Hobbys actually go in and fire now so big step in right direction.
I tried standard A4 paper with targets drawn on and pellets were bouncing off, so got proper one out (vary rarely do as I use shooting instead of shredding. Draw targets shoot until ripped to bits :P
Anyway first shots to target at top right.....nowhere near.... :(
Then top left, bottom left, got to bottom right and it seemed like I'd got it (after adjusting was convinced was low and left no matter what so aimed high right and thought hold on it's there!) so went one shot for middle target & bingo! :D
I joined the club today. Only a few rounds down range so far, but I like it. :)
Mine doesn't have the fiber optic sights, so I'm assuming it's a model that's been sitting on Amazon's shelf for awhile. No worries, though. I'll put a little white out on the front blade and I'm sure it will be just fine. Cocking effort is significant, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Loading is not bad, but I've got long girly fingers. I'm sure you guys with man hands have a much more difficult time. :)
The trigger is unbelievable. Really unbelievable. This is only the third air gun in my collection and my first single-stroke pneumatic, but the buttery feel of this trigger is astonishing. I've read that it's not quite match grade (which I've never shot), but I wonder how a trigger can be better than this. Looking forward to getting the iron sights really dialed in and shooting through the same hole over and over.
Cheers.
Ray
The P17 rulles! And here is the killer deal.

Got my P17 a few weeks ago based on your guys reviews, nice pistol wish all my triggers were this nice. :-*
I have not shot mine in a long time... I let my work life get in the way... I will have to get re-acquainted with my P17. From what I remember, it had a heck-of-a-nice trigger, and was super accurate!
:-* One of the best 10 meter guns I've ever had my hands on ! By the way Mr. Duck ,its the one I won from your your shooting match ! :-*
Good to see that you are getting some use out of it. :)
